Survive Shedding Season with the 5 Services for Dog Grooming in San Diego

dog-grooming-san-diego
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Groomer Certifications and Experience: I examined whether groomers are certified by reputable organizations (such as NDGAA or IPG). I also reviewed their professional background.

Range of Services Offered: I selected facilities that offer a comprehensive range of services. It includes bathing, dematting, and specialized treatments.

Facility Cleanliness and Safety Protocols: I visited and researched the hygiene standards and safety measures of each grooming salon.

Transparent Pricing Structure: I prioritized businesses with upfront pricing ranging from $35 to $95 for full-service grooms, and starting at $19 for self-wash options.

Appointment Flexibility and Wait Times: I assessed the ease of booking appointments and the typical wait times for services.

If you’ve ever seen little clumps of dog fur rolling around your living room like tiny tumbleweeds, you’re not alone. San Diego might have amazing weather, but that doesn’t stop dogs from shedding like crazy.

After finding too many “fur bunnies” under my couch, I knew I needed help. I love my dog, but grooming him myself didn’t go well, just a grumpy pup and a bathroom that smelled like wet dog for days.

So, I started looking for dog groomers in San Diego. I focused on finding ones that were friendly and great with all kinds of dogs. After doing thorough research, here are my top picks to keep your pup clean and your home fur-free.

How much do dog grooming services cost in San Diego?

Dog grooming services in San Diego cost from $35 to $95, depending on your dog’s size, the service type, and location. Additional options, such as specialty shampoos or nail grinding, may increase the price.

Raise The Wuff stands out from typical mobile groomers by using custom-built, spacious trailers instead of cramped vans. The extra room makes a noticeable difference, especially for large breeds.

My dog, who usually hates small spaces, was surprisingly calm inside. Even in the summer heat, the trailer stayed cool thanks to

-controlled A/C. It’s kept at a regulated temperature year-round, which shows real attention to comfort.

Safety hasn’t been overlooked either. The hydraulic grooming tables make it easier to handle dogs of all sizes while reducing the risk of injury.

What I appreciated most was the live camera system. I could watch the entire grooming session from my couch, which gave me peace of mind without making my dog anxious.

One thing to note: If you have a big or giant breed, pricing is something to consider. There’s an $85 fee for the first hour, and then $75 for each additional hour if your session runs longer than expected.

  • Spacious trailers

Cons

Best groomer

“I cannot say enough good things about Raise the Wuff! Charity is the best groomer! We have a Portugese Water Dog puppy with curly hair and he always looks so handsome after each bath and grooming. He is a high energy dog and I wasn’t sure if he would like to be groomed. But as soon as Charity showed us her trailer and explained her process, it was clear he was in good hands. She came highly recommended to us and I see why. I won’t take my dog anywhere else!”

Absolute delight to work with

“I had the pleasure of using Raise the Wuff for Nora’s first mobile grooming experience, and they did not disappoint! Charity was an absolute delight to work with. From the moment we first spoke, she kept me informed every step of the way. She explained exactly what would happen during the appointment and made sure Nora was comfortable the entire time. It was clear that she truly cares about the pets she works with. I highly recommend Raise the Wuff and will definitely be booking again for future grooming needs!”

DoggoWash is a great find for dog owners who prefer a hands-on approach to pet care. Rather than offering full-service grooming, this place sticks to what it does best: self-serve wash stations.

Each station is fully equipped with everything you need to give your dog a proper clean.

They offer a variety of shampoos too. It includes conditioning and flea treatment options, as well as both low and high-speed blow dryers to suit different coat types and comfort levels.

The location is another big plus. Just a short drive from Fiesta Island, it’s perfect for rinsing off muddy, sandy dogs after a beach day. I spoke with a couple of regulars who said it’s become part of their post-beach routine.

However, there is one downside. The water can take a while to warm up. A few people mentioned it, and I noticed it too… something to keep in mind if your dog is sensitive to cold.

Pros

  • Self-serve wash stations
  • Variety of shampoos and blow dryers
  • Convenient location

Cons

  • Water warms up slowly

Super clean and not expensive

“We took our dogs to a dog park close by and they got SO DIRTY. Thankfully we found DoggoWash, and were SUPER IMPRESSED with their system. I ran a Veterinary Hospital for over 24 years, that included a boarding and grooming facility, so I am VERY familiar with different dog washing systems. I LOVE that the four tubs are available 24 hours a day, that they were SUPER CLEAN, not expensive, included shampoo if needed, and that the water was the PERFECT temperature right away. Also, it’s worth noting that all of the tubs are enclosed by a gated fence, in case someone tries to run when you’re grabbing your phone, keys, etc. Lisa was cleaning the other tubs, and was EXTREMELY accommodating…we may or may not have a reactive dog. DoggoWash saved us, since we don’t live in the area, and have no way to wash our dogs at our hotel. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!”

Convenient and responsive

“I have now been to doggo wash at least 10 times now. The convenience is great and the water is warm too! I have used two locations and both were nice. The most recent time I started a wash where the hose appeared to be leaking and lacking water pressure. I texted the number on the gate and within 5 minutes I got a response saying they would credit my account back to use another machine which worked perfectly! I sent pictures of the leak and they were sending someone to repair. Overall would recommend and have recommended!”

Dunk’N Dogs is a family-run business where you’ll often see the owner and relatives working right alongside the team. There’s consistency here that you just don’t get at bigger, chain groomers.

The staff are gentle and patient, especially with nervous or older dogs. I brought my senior pup in for a full grooming and was a bit anxious. But the groomer took her time, let him adjust, and made the whole process feel low-stress.

Beyond grooming, they offer services like non-anesthesia dental cleanings, which I love, since sedation isn’t always ideal. Just note that those are only available on certain days (October 15th was one), so you’ll need to book ahead.

I also got some great advice from their staff on food options for my dog’s allergies. Their in-store selection leans toward holistic, high-quality brands. The guidance didn’t feel salesy, just helpful.

Plus, they offer discounts for military families, rescues, and fosters. It is just one more way they demonstrate their care extends beyond the bottom line.

Pros

  • Consistent service
  • Gentle with nervous or senior dogs
  • Non-anesthesia dental cleanings
  • Helpful holistic food advice
  • Discounts for military, rescues, and fosters

Cons

  • Dental cleanings are only available on selected days

Comfortable and competitive pricing

“First time here with Maple, our 2yo Golden Retriever! We took her in for the face, feet, and fanny combo so she just got a little cleanup. They were fast! The scheduling was super easy online and they text you confirmation of the appointment and text update when your pup is ready. It only took them a few hours, I picked her up a little after 3p for a 1p appointment and they did a wonderful job! Her coat is soft and lush, she smells like a million bucks, and her paws/nails are beautiful. Their pricing is very comfortable and competitive compared to some high end pricing we’ve experienced at other places, so it doesn’t break the bank to have your fur baby cared for. Additionally they have great treats/food/toys in their shop! We just moved in the neighborhood nearby so they’re right down the street from us, will definitely bring here here again! Thank you!”

Convenient appointment booking

“I’ve taken my dog Lele to Dunk N Dogs for about 2.5 years now and each time she receives excellent service! I have booked full grooming with the extra spa package with Rafael, Deanna, Dena, and Andrew. They take my requests into consideration and the employees are very friendly. The spa package includes teeth cleaning, nail trimming, extra conditioning, bandana, and a treat bag. Booking an appointment with them is convenient through their website. The appointments have ranged between 1.5-3 hours depending on how busy it is. They usually give you a timeline and will text whenever they’re ready for pick up. Parking is *typically* pretty easy depending on what time you go, however, there were a couple of times when I had to keep circling and waiting to find an open spot. They share a parking lot with other businesses. Overall, service is great and will continue to be a customer!”

Easy Breezy Pet Groom & Grub stood out to me for its mix of experience and genuine care.

They focus on building trust with each dog, and even suggest bringing something from home for pups with separation anxiety. I saw another owner do exactly that and swear it made a difference.

Beyond their thoughtful approach, they offer full-service grooming with shampoo, brushes, and even a complimentary blueberry facial.

They also use Hydrosurge tubs. They mix shampoo and conditioner directly into the water stream, making the wash process faster and more effective.

Dayboarding is another plus. I dropped my dog off before work and picked him up later with no issues. While there, staff also gave me helpful food advice and pointed out a few allergy-friendly brands I hadn’t tried before.

However, some customers mentioned long wait times and poor communication. One said her dog was there for hours without any updates. While the grooming is good, the scheduling and follow-up could be improved.

Pros

  • Trust-building staff
  • Accommodates dogs with separation anxiety
  • Offers a blueberry facial
  • Fast Hydrosurge tubs
  • Dayboarding available
  • Allergy-friendly food advice

Cons

  • Reports of long wait times

True professionals

“I have a Pomeranian.. and as anyone who owns one knows it’s nearly impossible to find a good groomer and don’t even think about finding exceptional or perfect one for that matter..Well look no further, ask for Alexis and she’ll take care of you! I can be aloof sometimes and. It pay attention but even a couple times where I wondered about pricing they were quick to supply my old receipts and break it down line by line so I could see that I was just mistaken. They are true professionals and the excitement every time I bring my puppies in is genuine and greatly appreciated!”

Good vibes all over the shop

“This was our first time and I was able to book an appointment online which was the first thing I was really happy about. When we got to the appointment we were met with awesome customer service. The front desk lady was so cute and decked out with the cutest style ever! (Not relevant, I know) my pups groomer came out to introduce herself which I also thought was awesome because typically they just bring my pup to the back. It’s the small things that made this a 5 star review! Good vibes all over the shop and I was happy to see how many fun treats and toppers they sold. I’m used to going to Kahoots for raw food and treats but I enjoyed the selection here much more! As far as the service, I had no issues with my pup. He smelled great and had a shiny coat! Most importantly he left happy which was important to me. 10/10”

Gabriel Feitosa Pet Boutique treats grooming as both craft and art. Their pet trims are tailored to coat, temperament, and lifestyle—not just breed.

They also do top‑tier breed standard grooming. I saw a Schnauzer walk out looking like it belonged in a show ring. For show dog owners, the salon also offers professional show grooming, with the goal of highlighting the best features of each breed.

Another thing that impressed me was their online grooming courses taught by Gabriel and his team. I met a family who flew in just to take one. They said it was totally worth it.

The little shop inside is also great. They carry stylish pet clothes, healthy treats, dog-safe ice cream, and more. A staff member even helped me find better food for my dog’s skin problems—no sales pressure, just honest advice.

Just keep in mind that this place is high-end, and the prices reflect that. If you’re looking for a fast or affordable trim, this might not be the right spot.

Pros

  • Artistic, tailored grooming
  • Show-quality trims
  • Offers grooming courses
  • Stylish shop
  • Helpful diet advice

Cons

  • Higher pricing
  • Not for quick trims

Wonderful service

“I took my 8 months goldendoodle Bean to get groomed by Logan after watching his work on TikTok for a long time. Needless to say, he didn’t disappoint! Beanie was wagging her tail when she headed out of the salon. I asked for a teddy cut, and he did a wonderful job. Beanie is 95% poodle so she has a very poodle-like head (long snout) but he did a beautiful job rounding out her features. I drove from Orange County to get groomed by Logan, and it was worth every minute!”

The best team

“This is not just a place for grooming – it is a salon for furry friends. Gabriel Feitosa and the team are the best!! Our now retired champion Border Terrier “Tess” went from raggedy to looking ready for the show ring. They paid attention to every detail and were so calm with our dog. We spent a lot of time searching for a groomer who is expert in hand stripping for terriers. Gabriel and the team really know what they are doing and made Tess comfortable while transforming her back to a showgirl. The entire staff are super helpful, engaging, and knowledgeable. In addition, the salon is well-organized, clean, and has cool treats and accessories. Thank you Gabriel for a great experience! This is the only salon in San Diego for our girl.”  –
