5 Best Recruitment Agencies in San Diego That Will Take the Work Out of Hiring the Right Folks

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Quality of Service: I selected agencies with industry experience. I also prioritized those with excellent candidate quality, thorough screening, and consistent results to ensure successful employer-employee matches.

Communication: I preferred staff who were very responsive and transparent in their updates. Another consideration for us is having a single point of contact for more seamless communication.

Turnaround: I chose options that are both effective and efficient with their candidate pipeline speed, interview coordination, and other processes to prevent any delays.

Value and Cost-Effectiveness: I looked into their fee structures, placement guarantees, replacement policies, and ROI for great long-term value.

In my profession, I’m always on the go, holding brand launches, pop-up parties, and other corporate events.

But the thing is, getting reliable event staff was a constant challenge. One time, I would have a full, punctual, and competent team. Next, I would be scrambling hours before guests arrive.

At first, I tried hiring through last-minute referrals or even through social media. Yet, that only made things worse—a bunch of no-shows, undertrained staff, and awkward client interactions.

That’s when I started looking into the best recruitment agencies in San Diego. I want to delegate the dilemma of finding the right people, so I don’t always have my hands full. If you want an easier time with staff hiring, check out my top picks.

How much do recruitment agencies charge in San Diego?

ecruitment agencies in San Diego typically charge employers a percentage of the candidate’s first-year salary for permanent placements. This ranges from 15 to 33%, depending on the agency, role level, industry demand, and exclusivity.

Boutique Recruiting is a San Diego-based staffing agency known for its fast placements. They started in 2014 after the founder, CEO, and president, Innesa Burrola, was fired, and they built the company with her husband and sister.

Burrola’s leadership has driven the firm to 168 employees and $4 million in revenue. I reckon this is mainly because of their custom processes for quicker, high-quality placements.

Her team also focuses on placements across North America, with a 93% success rate. Their time-to-fill is around 8 to 10 days, faster than the industry average of 42 to 63 days.

Plus, other factors that make them highly reputable include their recognition on Inc. 5000 and Staffing Industry Analyst’s Fastest-Growing lists.

And as their core values include authenticity, hustle, and honesty, they highlight giving personalized, face-to-face recruiting. Most specifically, they offer direct-hire, contract-to-permanent, and executive search.

I find it incredible that they cater to many industries too, such as accounting, biotech, and executive roles—unlike generic mass-posting agencies.

However, their founder-led culture and small team size can strain resources during peak hiring seasons. For me, this can slow personalized follow-ups for some clients.

Pros

  • Great with fast placements
  • 93% success rate
  • Offers personalized, face-to-face recruiting
  • Covers many industries
  • Recognized on Inc. 5000 and Fastest Growing lists

Cons

  • Smaller team than some others
  • Slower follow-ups during peak season

Highly recommended to anyone—employer or employee

“From the moment of first contact to my accepting a job offer was very quick. Even though it was quick, working with Sara was a great experience and I was very well informed throughout the process. I’ve never had a recruiting firm provide so much information with respect to the interview and how to prepare for it. I would recommend this firm to anyone; employer or employee.”

“Amazing professionalism! Katie Locke from Boutique Recruiting was fantastic. She was extremely thorough, prompt, and genuinely wanted to help. In the end I was able to secure the position and it was directly because of her influence. Thank you Katie!”

Proven Recruiting is a well-known staffing agency, specializing in tech, finance, accounting, and life sciences placements.

Founded in 2007 by 7 partners, they have grown to 200 staff across California and Texas offices, with San Diego as headquarters.

On top of that, it’s amazing that they are ranked #6 on the Fastest-Growing US Staffing Firms list for 2014 by Staffing Industry Analysis (SIA)—a respected global research firm that ranks top staffing companies based on growth metrics, including revenue increases.

I also find it handy that their crew calls themselves a diverse group of “loveable misfits.” They have eclectic backgrounds, such as CPAs, swim coaches, wedding planners, marketing specialists, and the like.

The team blends human relationships with tech tools for precise matches. From their company name, they stand out with a “Proven” process that delivers speed and accuracy beyond what basic job boards offer.

Just note that though they cater to several industries, they skip broader fields like creative, hospitality, or trades.

Pros

  • Specializes in tech, finance, and life sciences
  • Big staff across California and Texas
  • Ranked #6 Fastest-Growing US Staffing Firm
  • Diverse, eclectic team
  • Proven process ensuring speed and accuracy

Cons

  • Limited to select industries

Very impressed with their professionalism

“Sydney Shields and Jenifer Hanson were my recruiters. I am very impressed with their professionalism and exceeded expectations. They had refreshed my faith in this tough job market where “ghosting” has become an apparent norm. They are very informative, and I never left lost about next steps in the interview process. I will highly recommend these ladies and Proven Recruitment in your corner to find your next role.”

Megan Joyce was a very attentive, helpful and caring professional who had my best interests in mind and devoted a lot of time to helping me with my job search. I highly recommend Proven Recruiting for anyone looking to take the stress out of their job search.”

Transition Staffing Group is a San Diego staffing firm that uses proprietary tech and human insight to make targeted matches in niche fields.

Currently, they focus on accounting, finance, IT, engineering, and HR placements. They offer temp, temp-to-hire, and direct-hire options.

They were co-founded in 2005 by Shaun Enders (CEO) and Genia Enders, a husband-and-wife duo with roots in finance and entrepreneurship.

I believe they lead their company well, growing their affiliate network to over 35 cities through more than 200 recruiters, with San Diego as their HQ. In my view, that shows a broad geographic reach and speedy talent pooling.

Plus, I’m in awe that they have been recognized by the San Diego Business Journal as the Fastest Growing for 5 years and twice on Inc. 5000.

However, a client I spoke with had a minor issue with the agency’s psych-based screening. She mentioned that this placed too much emphasis on personality over hard skills, which led her to miss hiring many top performers.

Pros

  • Uses tech and human insight for targeted matches
  • Focuses on accounting, IT, engineering, and HR
  • With 200+ recruiters across 35+ cities
  • Has a broad geographic reach
  • Recognized by San Diego Business Journal and Inc. 5000

Cons

  • Client concerns about their psych-based screening

“My experience with TSG was great. I worked with Aly Bright, who was very attentive and resourceful. You will never feel left alone during the process – Aly would check-in, provide support, and be entirely transparent. I felt very comfortable with asking questions and asking for advice. PrideStaff is a franchised staffing agency providing temp, temp-to-hire, and direct hire across admin, professional, industrial, and financial roles.

Founded nationally in 1978 by George Rogers, their agency began franchising 17 years later, with over 85 offices across North America.

Opened in 1996, their San Diego branch was acquired in 2023 by ex-military leader Stennet Rey. I think this effective change likely earned them the Best of Staffing Diamond Awards for client and talent service.

People I talked to also praised their expertise in matching via their proprietary “FlexStaff” system. This serves as a central dashboard for tracking temp staff performance, attendance, costs, and compliance in real time.

The only thing I’m a bit disappointed about is their heavy reliance on their national HQ in Fresno for back-office operations. Someone I spoke with mentioned that this slowed the team’s local decision-making, especially for her fast-paced needs in San Diego.

Pros

  • Over 30 years in the industry
  • With 85+ offices nationwide
  • New local ownership with ex-military leadership
  • Won Best of Staffing Diamond Awards for service
  • Proprietary “FlexStaff” system for tracking and management

Cons

  • Can be less agile for urgent needs

Aldebaran Recruiting is a boutique headhunting firm that specializes in marketing, sales, and life sciences roles with a focus on high-touch placements.

More specifically, their team excels in personalized headhunting for hard-to-fill roles, using deep listening and etiquette-driven matches that go beyond resumes.

Operating since around 2017, I appreciate that this company values grace, manners, persistence, and client-candidate fit. Though with a tight-knit crew, they blend recruiting expertise with real-world hustle. For one, their staff has varied backgrounds, like in retail management.

They also target passive job candidates with just 5 to 10 hyper-qualified resumes per role. For me, this lets them shine with their personal touch, involving etiquette coaching, detailed prep, and constant check-ins.

Responsible for all this is Lance Winsaft, President and Managing Partner, since buying 50% ownership in 2014. He was a UC San Diego Philosophy graduate from the East Coast, overseeing sales and nationwide operations after roles in business development and coaching.

But because their size is quite limited, they don’t have the capacity for high-volume or multi-role hiring. In addition, their niche skips IT, admin, or industrial needs.

Pros

  • High-touch placements in many industries
  • Etiquette-driven headhunting
  • Targets hyper-qualified candidates
  • Praised for their experienced, versatile staff

Cons

  • Small team offering limited hiring volume
  • Skips IT, admin, and industrial roles

They are a true rockstar group of recruiting pros

“I was contacted by Alphonso as a prospect to see if my company needed some extra recruiting muscle—His timing couldn’t have been better because we’ve been struggling to find the right people! He presented his agency in the ultimate manner, plus, i was able to tell that he did his research on my company because we’re ready to grow the team! I booked a call and connected with the senior team, and I can say that they are a true rockstar group of recruiting pros! Highly recommend!”

-Hernandez Munchkins, Google Review

Incredibly professional and committed to being exceptional

“Lance and the entire team are incredibly professional and committed to providing an exceptional level of service. Lance’s industry knowledge is unparalleled, and he is truly committed to finding the best candidates for his clients and the best roles for his candidates.”

-Tiffany Hoffine, Google Review
