Finding a place to live in San Diego can feel like a full-time job, but I totally get why you’re looking; the tacos and sunset views are hard to resist. Since the rental market is pretty wild right now, you have to know which buildings actually live up to the hype.
Before you call up the local movers to start your transition, you’ll want to narrow down your search to the spots that actually fit your lifestyle.
Also, once you land a spot, you might want to look into professional organizers to help you settle in.
Read my personal guide to the best apartments in San Diego so you can get started!

1. Valentina by Alta

Website:https://www.livevalentina.com/
Address: 1919 Pacific Highway
Contact: (833) 933-1996
Hours: Monday – Saturday: 10 AM – 6 PM
Living right in the heart of Little Italy means you’re basically steps away from some of the best pasta and boutiques in the city.
Valentina by Alta really nails that urban sophisticated vibe, especially with those views of the harbor and the downtown skyline that are hard to beat.
The kitchens feel super sleek with their quartz countertops and modern finishes, which is a huge plus if you actually enjoy cooking at home.
So, while the resort-style pool and sky terrace are definitely impressive, it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.
For instance, I’ve noticed some chatter about security being a bit of a headache lately, with residents mentioning things like package theft and unauthorized people getting into the common areas.
Issues like this is a bummer considering how much you’re paying to live in such a prime spot. But if you value being near the waterfront and the Little Italy food scene, the trade-off might be worth it.
a better experience in leasing a new apartment
Jorge in the leasing office was incredible! Very personable and so helpful! Couldn’t have asked for a better experience in leasing a new apartment. I just leased a PH unit and got a great 2month deal!

living here is stress-free and enjoyable
I’ve had such a great experience with Jorge and Amanda from the apartment complex management team. They’re both incredibly helpful, professional, and responsive. Whether it’s addressing maintenance requests, answering questions, or just making the community feel more welcoming, they go above and beyond. It’s clear they genuinely care about the residents and take pride in their work. Thanks to them, living here is stress-free and enjoyable. Keep up the great work!

2. Pacific Ridge Apartments

Website:https://www.livepacificridge.com/
Address: 5945 Linda Vista Rd
Contact: 619-866-3311
Hours: Monday – Saturday: 9 AM – 5 PM
If you want that resort-style feeling without being stuck in the middle of downtown traffic, this spot in Mission Valley is a solid choice.
I actually chatted with a friend who lives here at Pacific Ridge, and she mentioned that the solar energy system keeps her electricity bills way lower than they were at her last place, which is a nice win for the wallet.
The units themselves have these great Moroccan-inspired touches and huge windows that let in a ton of that famous California sunlight.
Plus, having quick access to both I-5 (Interstate 5) and I-8 (Interstate 8) makes commuting to La Jolla or the beaches much easier.
But keep in mind that security can be a bit hit-or-miss, as some neighbors have reported car break-ins in the garage.
Management also seems pretty strict about parking enforcement, so you’ll want to make sure your guests have their permits sorted out before they visit.
made me feel valued.
I had an excellent experience leasing an apartment at Pacific Ridge. When I arrived unexpectedly, Nicole Liverpool kindly made time to meet with me, which immediately impressed me. The next day, Alexis Vazquez gave me a wonderful tour and made the entire leasing process smooth, easy, and stress-free. Alexis was incredibly friendly, responsive, and professional, always going the extra mile to help and answer my questions. She truly made me feel valued. I highly recommend Pacific Ridge — and especially Alexis — you’ll be so glad you reached out.

make it as easy as possible
We were looking the perfect residence for my son’s first apartment and we found it. Alexis, the leasing agent, has been absolutely spectacular! She has been there with us every step of the way to expedite the process and make it as easy as possible. The complex is absolutely gorgeous and the security is terrific. I feel much better sending my son off to college, knowing that he will be safe and happy in his new space.

3. Radian Apartments

Website:https://radianliving.com/
Address: 675 Ninth Avenue
Contact: 619-554-0288
Hours: Daily: 9 AM – 6 PM
Tucked right into the East Village near Petco Park, this place is perfect if you love being in the middle of the action.
The interiors here are some of the nicest I’ve seen, featuring Italian cabinetry and those fancy waterfall quartz countertops that make the kitchen look like it belongs in a magazine.
Since it’s a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold-certified building, you can also feel a bit better about your environmental footprint while enjoying the rooftop pool.
However, living in such a high-traffic area does come with some downsides, like the occasional construction noise and busy streets. I also heard that the management can be a little slow to respond when things like the trash chutes or elevators act up.
If you can handle a few maintenance delays for the sake of having a stunning view of the ballpark and a penthouse-style lounge, then this might be your winner.
really welcoming
I was at the Radian for an event recently. Very excited about this building. I’ve lived in a few high rises that have nice amenities but I was impressed with the details here. Like, a pizza oven with a view? So cool. Chris from the leasing office gave me an excellent tour. He clearly has a design background and had some great ideas for how to decorate the apartment. He was also really welcoming and not pushy at all.

the most amazing apartment
I found this apartment building just walking around down town. I can’t say enough about Will and the entire property management staff. Not only did I find the most amazing apartment but an entirely new social circle and community. I feel so lucky to call this place home. Where else are you welcomed with custom blankets and bottles of wine! All the floor plans and interiors are absolutely stunning and the rooftop is a complete oasis. You could never leave and be content, added bonus is a target in the lobby!

Hours: Monday – Friday: 9 AM – 6 PM; Saturday – Sunday: 10 AM – 5 PM
K1 Apartment is a 23-story high-rise that definitely stands out in the East Village skyline, and the views from the upper floors are genuinely incredible.
When I swung by to check out the two-story sky lounge last month, the view of the bay during sunset was honestly enough to make me want to sign a lease on the spot.
The apartments have a very clean, modern look, with wood-plank flooring and gourmet kitchens that feel very high-end.
I should mention, however, that the elevators can be a bit of a pain, as they seem to go out of service more often than they should.
Also, some residents have had issues with the parking gates being left open, which definitely raises some eyebrows regarding security in a downtown building.
On the bright side, living here also puts you within walking distance of the Gaslamp Quarter, so you’ll never run out of dinner or nightlife options.
on point with anything a resident needs
I would Rate K1 Apartments a 10 Star if possible. Laura and Lance are the managers for K1 Apartments in East Village. Out of all the property managers of the other apartments they are above and beyond the top. Laura is always on point with anything a resident needs. The property has amazing views and amenities. I looked at others but having Laura and the Apartment K1 offered – there was only 1 easy choice. I would recommend K1 and Laura! These are just 2 quick photos I took.

I have absolutely loved my time here
Been living at K1 for the past three months and I have absolutely loved my time here. The staff are super helpful and friendly. They did a great job at providing information and were very receptive when I was still an interested tenet. The views are spectacular. Maintenance is always prompt and the parking garage is both safe and secure. The common areas are also kept very clean. Sometimes the trash shoot is backed up, but I can’t fault the staff for that one. For my first apartment in downtown SD, I wouldn’t change a thing.

5. Luma Apartments

Website:https://www.rentluma.com/
Address: 1440 Columbia St
Contact: (844) 515-0002
Hours: Thursday – Tuesday 9 AM – 6 PM (Wed: 12 PM – 6 PM)
Luma is another great option if you want to be in Little Italy, especially if you’re a fan of rooftop vibes. They’ve got this awesome outdoor theater and a pool that feels more like a vacation spot than an apartment building.
The units are super pet-friendly too, with a fenced dog park and a grooming station, so your furry friend won’t feel left out of the luxury experience.
Anyway, it’s worth noting that being so close to the airport means you’re going to hear planes taking off and landing pretty frequently, which can be annoying if you’re a light sleeper.
On top of that, there are some extra monthly fees for utilities and third-party services that can make your total bill a bit higher than you initially expected. But if you want a walkable lifestyle with a social rooftop scene, it’s definitely one to check out.
Amazing apartment
Amazing apartment and place to live in San Diego DT! We moved from LA last year and toured 10+ apartment buildings in San Diego, Luma is hands down was the best choice. Just tour it yourself and you wont regret it, location is amazing (cant beat it), it’s clean and new, super quiet (you dont hear your neighbors), amazing staff! We wanted to stay for a year only but we are renewing for a larger unit.
