The 5 Best Filipino Restaurants in San Diego Serving the Most Authentic Flavors

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Flavor Authenticity: We evaluated how closely each kitchen honors traditional cooking methods and historic flavor profiles. Our team looked for rich, well-balanced savory profiles that capture the genuine essence of home-style meals.

Menu Selection: A great spot needs a thoughtful balance of time-tested staples and innovative additions. We analyzed how effectively these eateries cater to traditional cravings while remaining fully accessible to newcomers.

Portion Value: Generous hospitality is an absolute cornerstone of this vibrant culinary heritage. We checked the overall balance between price and portion sizes to ensure diners receive excellent value.

Kitchen Reliability: Steady execution makes a massive difference when dealing with high daily volume. We looked at how well consistency holds up during peak service hours and busy weekend rushes.

San Diego is famous for its gorgeous beaches and fantastic food scene, but the local culinary landscape holds a special place for savory, garlic-heavy comfort meals.

While you might spend your weekend exploring the city’s popular wine tasting spots or checking out the local breweries, you also need to dive into the vibrant flavors of the Pacific.

Filipino cuisine stands out in particular. It offers dishes built around crisp spring rolls, slow-simmered stews, and deeply layered flavors that feel both comforting and unforgettable.

If you’re not sure where to find them, we did the tasty legwork to find the ultimate spots satisfying everyone from lifelong food enthusiasts to curious local explorers looking for their next big meal. Here are the best Filipino restaurants in San Diego right now!

1. Luna’s LUNpias Filipino Fusion Eatery

luna-s-lunpias-filipino-fusion-eatery

Website: https://lunaslunpias.com/

Address: 14034 Poway Road, Unit C, Poway, CA 92064

Contact: (858)-883-4277

Hours: Tue – Sat 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Sun 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Luna’s LUNpias Filipino Fusion Eatery is a pandemic-born, family-owned Filipino fusion spot that leans into elevated comfort food with a modern twist.

Their menu is built around a creative take on classic pork spring rolls, which gives the whole concept a clear identity while still leaving room for broader Asian fusion experimentation.

During our visit, we explored their expanded menu and really enjoyed how they incorporate ube (purple yam) into their desserts. It adds a distinct signature touch you don’t often see in neighborhood eateries.

However, the popular menu items do sell out fast, which limits choice if you arrive later in the day. Some dishes, like the pancit (noodle dish), can also come out a bit on the heavier, greasier side.

Pros

  • Modern fusion menu variety
  • Handcrafted signature spring rolls
  • Unique purple yam desserts
  • Charming family-run backstory

Cons

  • Menu items sell out early
  • Occasional greasy noodle texture
  • Limited seating capacity

Everything was fresh and the meat tender

When your daughter gives a restaurant a “5 star rating” you know you have to share. Luna’s LUNpias – Filipino Fusion Eatery . Everything was fresh and the meat tender, big portion sizes, the presentation was gorgeous and the customer service was excellent. So glad we gave them a try.

It was worth the wait

The first time I walked in, I was greeted with open arms as they pride themselves on treating everyone as family. I ordered the sisig bowl the Ube Tres Leches. Both were very yummy. It took a little long to make, but it was worth the wait. I can see why this mom and pop won the best Filipino restaurant of 2024!

2. Gaslamp Lumpia Factory

gaslamp-lumpia-factory

Website: https://gaslamplumpiafactory.com/

Address: 423 F Street, San Diego, California 92101, United States

Contact: (619) 310-5522

Hours: Mon – Tue 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM, Wed – Thu 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM, Fri 09:00 AM – 01:00 AM, Sat 10:00 AM – 01:00 AM, Sun 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Gaslamp Lumpia Factory is built around a pulutan (finger food)-style concept that pairs Filipino-inspired bar food with a lively nightlife setting.

The focus on crispy lumpia gives the menu a clear identity, while the addition of items like chicken skewers and rice bowls makes it more filling than a typical snack-focused bar.

The atmosphere is also a big part of the experience, with karaoke nights and live DJ sets turning it into more of an entertainment venue than a standard restaurant. That makes it a strong fit for group outings or late-night gatherings downtown.

We did find the lumpia wrapper style to be a bit different from traditional expectations. It leans thicker like an egg roll.

Some of the larger dishes, such as adobo plates, can also come out a bit dry depending on timing and preparation.

Pros

  • Vibrant downtown nightlife setting
  • Dedicated specialty spring roll focus
  • Weekly live entertainment events
  • Shared sharing-style food platters

Cons

  • Non-traditional roll texture
  • Inconsistent meat moisture

I’’ll be going again

A nice little quaint hole in the wall restaurant located in the gas lamp, but off the beaten path. it’s very comfy and cozy inside. it was kind of full when I was there but I was getting my food to go anyway so I could watch the football game. needless to say, I’m having the garlic rice bowl with mushrooms and it’s delicious with an egg. very happy with it. the traditional Filipino foods. they even have Filipino beer. if you like red horse they have it. check them out. I’ll be going again

The service is quick and also friendly

This is not a traditional Filipino Restaurant.  When I first entered I felt like I was in another world (In a good way).  The food is fast, the service is quick and also friendly.  I really like the Fil-Am twist. Great Vibe and chill atmosphere.  The music is always awesome!

3. Kusina San Diego: A Taste of the Pacific

Website: https://kusinasd.com/

Address: 7580 Miramar Road, San Diego, CA 92126

Contact: (858)-868-5021

Hours: Tue – Sat 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM; Sun 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Kusina San Diego: A Taste of the Pacific offers an all-day comfort-focused menu that combines Filipino and broader Pacific-inspired dishes. It’s a flexible spot for both quick meals and group dining.

The atmosphere feels welcoming and easygoing, which works well for sharing large platters with coworkers or family-style dining.

The menu versatility is also a strong point. It covers everything from simple lunch options to more substantial dishes suited for bigger gatherings and celebrations.

The seasoning, though, can vary a bit between dishes. This is especially true in some of the traditional sauces.

Certain noodle-based plates can also feel a bit unbalanced at times, with a heavier noodle-to-protein ratio that leaves less meat than expected.

Pros

  • Comprehensive traditional menu
  • Approachable family-friendly environment
  • Great casual dining versatility
  • Deeply nostalgic flavor profiles

Cons

  • Occasional under-seasoned sauces
  • Uneven ingredient proportions
  • Unpredictable buffet availability

Great filipino traditional dishes!

Great filipino traditional dishes! Beef Kare Kare, fried rice with extra fried eggs, chicken adobo, chicken katsu & sizzling sisig were delicious. Price pretty good for the large size portion you get per dish. Only 3 of us but food could of fed 6 people total. The owner is great! We love Tress. Service fast and relaxing big restaurant. If you need a venue to rent for meetings or party events, book it here. I would love to see cover bands in future if they could there. Next time I need to get Halo-Halo!

4. Tita’s Kitchenette

Website: https://titas-kitchenette.goto-where.com/

Address: 2720 E Plaza Blvd E, National City, CA 91950, United States

Contact: +1 619-434-3879

Hours: Mon – Sun 5:30 AM – 9:00 PM

Tita’s Kitchenette delivers a classic counter-service, point-and-choose dining experience centered on traditional Filipino comfort food and party trays.

It stays fully committed to home-style cooking rather than chasing modern fusion trends, which keeps the menu familiar and approachable.

The portions are also a major highlight. They offer generous servings that easily work for families or group meals without becoming expensive, making it a strong everyday value option.

That said, its strong popularity often leads to long lines during peak lunch and dinner hours, which can slow things down considerably.

There can also be occasional consistency issues, such as rice coming out a bit softer than ideal, depending on the batch.

Pros

  • Traditional point-and-choose style
  • Generous value-oriented portions
  • Extensive daily menu selection
  • Budget friendly combo plates

Cons

  • Long lines during rush hours
  • Inconsistent cooking times
  • Popular items sell out early

5. Nanay’s Best BBQ

nanay-s-best-bbq

Website: https://nanaysbestbbqgo.twupro.com/

Address: 6755 Mira Mesa Blvd #103, San Diego, CA 92121, USA

Contact: +1 858-625-0827

Hours: Mon – Sun 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Nanay’s Best BBQ is a fast-service spot focused on smoky, grilled meat dishes, especially barbecue-style ribs, pulled pork, and skewers.

We really appreciate that they treat barbecue preparation as a craft. They lean into bold, rich flavors while still keeping the format quick and convenient for people grabbing lunch on the go.

The streamlined menu also helps keep service efficient, which works well for busy neighborhood traffic and takeaway orders.

The limited side dish selection, though, feels restrictive compared to larger buffet-style places. Some items also take a creative turn (like the signature pink fried rice), which can catch diners off guard if they’re expecting strictly traditional barbecue sides.

Pros

  • Specialized grilled meat focus
  • High quality fresh ingredients
  • Quick fast-service dining format
  • Generous lunch portion sizes

Cons

  • Limited overall menu variety
  • Non-traditional side flavors
  • Brief daytime operational hours

Authentic Filipino BBQ flavor

What an appropriate name for this place because it really is like coming home to Nanay’s (Mom’s) home cooking. Authentic Filipino BBQ flavor along with other menu items but do come early for more selection. Price is right, under $10 bucks for large servings. Excellent lunch spot, highly recommend!
