5 Best Pet Grooming Services in San Diego for Healthy, Happy Pets

best-pet-grooming-san-diego
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Service Variety: We checked each business's menu to see if they offer more than a basic bath and trim. Groomers with de-shedding, specialty cuts, or mobile service ranked higher.

Professional Handling: We reviewed service pages and customer feedback for signs of experience and gentle care. So, businesses repeatedly praised for handling nervous, young, or senior pets earned stronger consideration.

Cleanliness and Safety: We looked at photos, service details, and customer comments to assess cleanliness and safety.

Convenience and Booking: We tested how clear and easy the booking process appears. Straightforward scheduling, visible pricing, and responsive communication scored better.

If your dog turns every bath into a wrestling match or your car leaves fur on everything you own, grooming can feel like one more chore in an already busy week.

Fortunately, trusted pet grooming services in San Diego can take that stress off your plate. Professional groomers handle the mess, reduce shedding, trim nails safely, and help keep coats healthy without the struggle at home.

Even better, you do not have to spend hours guessing where to book. We already did the sorting for you. Our list features reliable local favorites known for quality care, gentle handling, and pets that come home looking fresh and feeling great.

How much do pet grooming services cost in San Diego?

Pet grooming services in San Diego cost between $40 and $120+ per session, depending on the pet’s size, breed, and coat condition. Still, rates vary based on the type of grooming requested.

1. Dogtopia of Miramar

For busy fur parents who often need a one-stop shop, Dogtopia of Miramar is a smart solution.

Grooming services go beyond a basic wash. Visits can include teeth brushing, ear cleaning, brush-outs, and a self-serve bath station that makes cleanup easier without the mess at home.

Safety is also a clear priority. Rabies, distemper, and bordetella vaccinations are required before spa appointments.

In addition, staff training covers dog behavior, body language, and sanitation and health. That added preparation can give owners more peace of mind.

What makes the location even more practical is how grooming fits alongside daycare, overnight boarding, and extended boarding. As a result, owners can take care of multiple pet needs in a single visit instead of making separate trips.

We also particularly like the $99 Unlimited Weekly Enrollment for households that need regular daycare support.

On top of that, DASH tracks activity during daycare and gives owners a smarter look at daily exercise. Meanwhile, live webcams on desktop and mobile make check-ins easy throughout the day.

One consideration, however, is that those wanting only a quick walk-in groom may prefer a simpler grooming-only setup

Pros

  • Offers grooming extras
  • Has a self-serve bath station
  • Trained staff
  • Combines grooming and daycare
  • Affordable weekly plan
  • Features activity tracking
  • Reliable live webcams

Cons

  • Less ideal for quick walk-ins

Loving daycare with cute photoshoots

“River has been loving daycare at Dogtopia of Miramar. I really enjoy seeing how many calories and miles he gets in while at work. The staff is friendly and communicative. I would recommend dog daycare here if you what to finance dog daycare expenses as well. Dogtopia of Miramar has weekly and monthly plans to meet the needs of every dog owner. They also do really cute photoshoots!”

Safe, fun, and super friendly care

“Thank you for the great service Dogtopia has provided for our little Winnie Pooh! I brought her in to help with socializing and mental stimulation and it’s been wonderful. Staff is super friendly , clean faculty, I see the staff cleans up quickly and have protocol sanitation procedures, and price is reasonable. , I love the webcams to check on our fur babies.  They also have special activities/events for the dogs on certain days. I highly recommend if you are looking for a safe and fun environment for your fur babies.  :)”

Raise The Wuff is a strong option for pet owners who want grooming built around convenience and calmer care. Instead of driving across town, owners can schedule a groomer to come to a home, office, or another preferred location.

Along with convenience, the service uses a fear-free certified approach. Gentle handling and desensitization help reduce stress during appointments. This can be especially helpful for nervous dogs or first-time visits.

Grooming is also done with one-on-one attention and no cages. In that setting, the experience can feel calmer than many busy salons.

The setup itself is another advantage. A state-of-the-art trailer offers more room than a standard van. It is spacious enough for even an English Mastiff to stretch out comfortably.

We also like that owners can watch the entire groom live. That rare feature gives real-time visibility during the appointment.

For pets with sensitive skin, 100% natural shampoos and conditioners are another plus. At the same time, pricing is customized by breed, coat type, and time required.

However, their mobile scheduling may offer fewer same-day openings.

Pros

  • Offers mobile grooming
  • Fear-free handling
  • One-on-one, cage-free care
  • Spacious trailer
  • Uses natural products
  • Customized pricing

Cons

  • Fewer same-day openings

Perfect cuts every single time

“Chastity is excellent! She is very responsive and ensures we keep on our grooming schedule. My dogs have completely different coats and she always cuts them perfectly! My little ladies love her and always are so soft and clean afterwards! My girls have never looked better!”

Professional, on-time, and amazing results

“So happy I found Charity at Raise the Wuff Mobile Dog Grooming!  She does an amazing job with our Labrador mix.  He has never looked better.  She is friendly, professional, on time, her mobile grooming is clean, which is a huge plus for me.  I would highly recommend her!!”

3. City Dog

If you want flexible grooming options with clear upfront pricing, City Dog is a practical pick. Bath packages start at $45, bath and tidy services start at $75, and haircut packages start at $90, making it easier to compare options before booking.

Beyond the standard packages, add-ons are available for extra grooming needs. These include nail trims, flea dips, and de-skunk care. Dental cleaning is also available for $239, so several services can be handled in one visit.

Cat services are another plus. Rates start at $65 for kittens, $85 for short-haired cats, and $100 for long-haired cats.

Long hours from 9 AM to 8 PM most days make scheduling easier, while the downtown location works well for many city residents. Those outside central San Diego, however, may find it less convenient than a closer neighborhood option.

Still, being a locally owned shop serving the area since 2005 adds credibility. Shoppers can also find toys and food brands such as ACANA, ORIJEN, and Open Farm.

Pros

  • Clear pricing
  • Provides grooming add-ons
  • Includes dental cleaning
  • Offers cat grooming
  • Long business hours
  • Strong local credibility

Cons

  • Less convenient outside downtown

The staff is always friendly

“I continue to have a great experience every time I bring my pups here! Ally and Alicia are grooming superstars and always take the best care of Lulu and Wrigley. We’ve had some unfortunate experiences with other groomers before finding City Dog, so I can 100% attest to the fact that it’s not easy to find a quality, talented groomer who knows what they’re doing. I’m thankful to have found them! Also, I love all the bulk treats they have available — Wrigley thinks it’s a buffet! The staff is always friendly and we love coming here. Shop local and support this gem of a business!”

Reasonable prices with everything you need

“I really like this place. The service is very good and they have a large variety of food and supplies. I have been here a few times to wash my dogs myself and they have everything you need from all different shampoos to blow dryers and the ear cleaning and blueberry facial is included. I also like that the tubs are against a wall so the dogs don’t really see other dogs. It’s downtown so parking is a hit or miss. As for the price I think it was reasonable especially if you upgrade the shampoo it’s not that bad.”

4. Top Dog Wash & Groom

Top Dog Wash & Groom makes squeezing in grooming into a packed week easier.

One of its biggest strengths is flexibility. It offers three service options in one place, including self-serve dog wash, drop-off bathing and brushing, and full grooming haircuts. That setup makes it easier to choose based on budget or schedule.

For those who prefer a hands-on option, the self-wash area features tall and easy-access tubs. This makes bath time far less awkward than washing a dog at home.

If professional care feels like the better fit, the drop-off bath-and-brush service offers a helpful middle ground without paying for a full haircut. Meanwhile, full grooming is also available for breed trims or coat shaping.

Convenience adds even more value. Doors are open 7 days a week, with hours starting as early as 8 AM on several days. We like that early appointments can help owners check off one more task before work or before the day gets busy.

However, the straightforward setup may feel less premium than boutique grooming salons.

Pros

  • Provides self-wash tubs
  • Has drop-off bath service
  • Includes full grooming
  • Opens 7 days a week

Cons

  • Less premium than boutique salons

Patient and truly professional care

“I had to find a new nail trim/groomer for my 10 lb min pin since we just moved to the area.  I couldn’t be more pleased with the service. My dog has alot of anxiety, and both Riley and Laura made our first experience so calming and successful all while being extremely patient. Laura asked me throughout the nail trimming if it was ok to keep going, which I found very professional and a genuine way to build rapport with a new client. I’m so glad I found Top Dog and will definitely be coming back!”

Fantastic groomers

“They’re fantastic! We’ve been for multiple grooms for both of my Mischevious Miscreants (husky & Aussie pair), and for nail trimmings as well- they are so good with my crazypants dogs. 100%, you can trust your critters here.”

For pet owners who like knowing the cost before they book, Pet Palace is an easy option to consider. Full grooming prices are openly listed by size, starting at $55 to $90 for extra small pets and ranging up to $85 to $175 for extra large pets

That transparency makes it easier to estimate costs before scheduling an appointment. Full-service grooming is available for owners who want everything handled, while self-serve stations offer a practical option for quick cleanups or post-beach baths.

Service variety adds even more value. Cat grooming is also available, with rates from $85 to $140, useful for homes with both dogs and cats.

The shop also carries pet food, treats, and more supplies. This makes it easier to handle another errand at the same stop.

For over 25 years, Pet Palace has been proudly serving the San Diego community. That long history adds trust for owners choosing a neighborhood groomer.

Clear policies are also worth noting, including a $40 missed appointment fee and a $40 late pickup fee, which help set expectations before booking. However, operating hours may feel more limited compared to shops that stay open later in the evening.

Pros

Cons

  • Limited opening hours

Easy peasy grooming service

“Been going here for at least a year. Great service. Appointment is automated. I get a txt and confirm. Bring my dog. Get a call. Pick her up. Easy peasy.”

Kind care at a reasonable price

“I took my puppy for her first grooming and they took great care of her! They were kind, responsive, and reasonably priced. We will definitely be back soon!”
