5 Best Podiatrists in San Diego for Expert Foot Care

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Service Scope: We reviewed each clinic’s listed services and prioritized those that treat common foot and ankle conditions, including heel pain, custom orthotics, and more.

Clinic Websites: We reviewed official clinic information to see how clearly each provider explains their treatments, appointment process, and patient care approach.

Provider Background: We looked at each podiatrist’s credentials, experience, specialties, and professional focus to understand the type of care patients can expect.

Accessibility: We also considered practical factors such as location within San Diego, office hours, and appointment booking options.

Foot pain is not just an inconvenience when it starts affecting how we walk, work, or stay active. What may begin as a sore heel, an ingrown toenail, or recurring discomfort can signal a deeper issue that needs proper evaluation.

Ignoring it may lead to worse pain or limited mobility over time. This is why finding trusted podiatrists in San Diego matters. The right specialist can diagnose the cause and provide proper treatment.

So to make the search easier, we rounded up clinics worth considering before booking your next appointment.

How much do podiatrists charge in San Diego?

Podiatrists in San Diego charge $75 to $250 for an initial consultation, while California new-patient podiatry visits range up to $385 for self-pay patients. However, rates vary based on insurance coverage, clinic location, and provider experience.

Established in 1972, San Diego Podiatry Group brings over 50 years of experience treating foot and ankle conditions across San Diego. This gives the clinic a strong advantage for patients dealing with recurring pain or issues that require long-term care.

Another standout is its team of four podiatrists. The clinic offers both medical and surgical podiatry services, allowing patients to receive care for concerns such as heel pain, ingrown toenails, and more. I think this makes the practice especially convenient for those who prefer one clinic that can manage a wide range of foot and ankle issues.

What also impressed me was its focus on foot mechanics. The team evaluates conditions like flat feet, high arches, bunions, and hammertoes, then connects treatment plans to how patients walk, move, and handle daily activities.

Its custom orthotics are another highlight. They are created using personalized foot molds and are designed to last around 7 to 10 years.

The downside is that patients with minor concerns may find the evaluation process more detailed or time-consuming than expected.

Pros

  • Over 50 years of local experience
  • 4-podiatrist team
  • Provides care for recurring foot issues
  • Focuses on foot mechanics
  • Creates custom orthotics

Cons

  • Requires a more detailed evaluation

Concerns were addressed in an unrushed manner

“My visits to Dr. Cullen are always excellent.  The staff is welcoming and efficient.  I especially like that I do not have to wait very long before seeing the doctor.  I have found Dr. Cullen to be an exceptional doctor in the field of Podiatry.  He is caring and calm.  My questions and concerns are addressed in a professional unrushed manner, and often with a good sense of humor, which is much needed these days!  I highly recommend this Podiarty Group for anyone in need of this speciality.”

An honor and blessing to be in her care

“Dr. Brittney Rice is absolutely magnificent in EVERYWAY!!!!!The office staff are also marvelous. They are always kind, compassionate, courteous and professional. It never takes over 5 minutes to be placed in treatment rooms. Scheduling is always smooth and efficient. I have had emergencies from falling often and they accommodate me by letting me see  another available doctor. Because of their understanding I have been spared ER visits many times. Eventhough I am a senior Dr. Rice is always kind, compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. Also very patient! I am convinced she is the BEST podiatrist in the world. Finally, it is an honor and blessing to be in her care. Dr. Rice is a beautiful doctor and good person.”

Sports Arena Podiatry Group is a practical option for patients who want routine foot care with access to more advanced treatment when needed. The clinic has served San Diego patients for 50 years, giving it a long track record in both preventive care and corrective podiatry.

Its team includes two podiatrists, Andrew Felfoldi, DPM, and Madison Ravine, DPM, both of whom are also podiatric surgeons. This allows patients to be evaluated for common concerns like heel pain and bunions, while also having access to surgical care if necessary.

A key feature of the clinic is its conservative-first approach. The team prioritizes proper diagnosis, patient education, and non-surgical treatments before considering surgery.

For heel pain, this may include stretching routines, footwear changes, and custom orthotics.

The clinic also offers advanced treatments such as PRP therapy and fat pad grafting, which may benefit patients with chronic pain, plantar fasciitis, or pressure-related conditions.

The downside is that more advanced treatments may require additional consultations, which can delay a clear cost estimate and treatment timeline.

Pros

  • 50 years of podiatry experience
  • Offers care from 2 podiatrists
  • Provides treatment for common foot concerns
  • Conservative-first approach

Cons

  • Delays in pricing and timelines

Was able to recover in time to play

“I saw Dr. Ravine when I broke my big toe from a scary boat accident. She saw me quickly, provided x-ray results quickly and explained the diagnosis clearly and also provided very clear instructions for recovery. I had a pickleball tournament scheduled and was concerned I would not be healthy enough to play in, but I 100% believe I was able to recover in time to play due to Dr. Ravine’s recovery plan. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!”

Had the most pleasant experience with this office

“I had the most pleasant experience with this office.  I met with Dr. Andrew Felfoldi, he was so friendly and professional. He listened to my problem, explained an easy resolution, I was so delighted. The office staff is also very friendly.  I highly recommend this practice.”

Advanced Foot and Ankle Center of San Diego stands out for complex foot and ankle care. It goes beyond routine podiatry by focusing on patients with more serious or specialized concerns.

To start, Dr. Philip Wrotslavsky has 25 years of experience treating adults, children, and infants. This makes the clinic useful for families and patients who need care across different age groups.

Its strongest edge is surgical expertise. Dr. Wrotslavsky is board-certified in Foot and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery. Because of this, the practice is well-positioned for cases that may need advanced correction or reconstruction.

The clinic is also notable for limb salvage and joint salvage work. This is especially helpful for patients who have been told they may need fusion or even amputation. Instead, the practice highlights motion-preserving and limb-saving alternatives.

Another standout service is its care for Charcot foot ulcers. The clinic receives patients from across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. That reach says a lot about its role in complicated wound and diabetic foot cases.

Just note that appointment availability may be limited on a daily basis.

Pros

  • Handles complex foot and ankle cases
  • Physician has 25+ years of experience
  • Board-certified surgical expertise
  • Treats complicated Charcot foot ulcers

Cons

  • Limited availability

He restored my walking ability

“The best-5 stars!!  After years of pain and frustration, I found Dr. Wrotslavsky. He is very professional and empathetic.  He restored my walking ability by surgically replacing/repairing 5 ligaments in my ankle. I now have a whole new life of activities thanks to Dr. W.”

The doctor himself is also incredibly personable

“I recently came in to see Dr. Phil for a problem that I’ve been having with my ankles for the last two years. It was a running problem that got worse and worse from me just ignoring it and powering through. I had a great experience. I was able to make an appointment within a few days. I saw the doctor on time. And I felt like I was given exactly what I needed under no pressure. The doctor himself is also incredibly personable, and I found that his other patients adore him as well. I’ll be coming back if I have any problems at all. 10/10”

North Park Podiatry is best known for its focus on bunion surgery. The clinic states it is among the top three Lapiplasty® providers in the San Diego area, giving it an edge for patients seeking advanced bunion correction.

Its surgical team is another strength. The practice has three podiatric surgeons, including Trent Brookshier, DPM, who completed a three-year surgical residency at Scripps Mercy Hospital.

The clinic’s services are broad but focused. It treats conditions such as sports injuries, diabetic foot care, and plantar fasciitis, and also offers minimally invasive surgery using smaller incisions and less tissue disruption.

It also uses advanced tools like PRP injections, 3D scans, and fluoro-guided injections to support more precise diagnosis and treatment planning.

The downside is that the website does not clearly show how quickly patients can move from consultation to treatment, making timelines harder to estimate before booking.

  • Surgeon with 3 years of residency training
  • Treats routine and complex foot concerns
  • Minimally invasive surgery
  • Uses advanced treatment tools

Amazed at his scope of knowledge and excellent skills

“Update: I have updated my original review but it keeps on disappearing so here goes one last time: Just finished my second treatment with Dr. Navarette and once again I was amazed at his scope of knowledge and excellent skills as well as pleasant personality that makes you completely relaxed during your procedure. Assistant Katy’s exceptional skills are to be commended as well as the thorough and upbeat support staff. “I think this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship!”

The doctor was incredibly attentive and listened to all my concerns

“I had such a great experience here! The doctor was incredibly attentive and took the time to listen to all my concerns and answer every question I had. Everyone in the office was so friendly and welcoming — it made the whole visit so pleasant. Highly recommend!”

University Foot and Ankle Specialists, Inc. is strongest for patients who need surgical-level foot and ankle care. Dr. Richard Tu completed a 3-year Advanced Surgical Residency from 2004 to 2007.

During that training, he handled more than 1,200 foot surgical cases, 1,400 ankle procedures, and 1,000 office procedures.

The clinic says it is the #1 provider of Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™ in San Diego. It is also listed as a Treace Medical Center of Excellence, which gives patients a more specific option beyond standard bunion treatment.

Another major service is ankle reconstruction. Dr. Tu is one of the few podiatric surgeons in San Diego certified in STAR Ankle Replacement surgery. This matters for patients with serious ankle damage who need more than basic foot care.

For less invasive concerns, the clinic also offers laser toenail fungus treatment with no downtime. Its site says most patients see results within 10 to 12 weeks.

The downside is that the website does not show clear pricing or treatment timelines upfront. Patients have to book or ask first before they can estimate the total cost and recovery schedule.

Pros

  • Surgical-level foot and ankle care
  • Over 1,200 foot surgical cases
  • Ranks as the #1 Lapiplasty provider
  • Offers STAR ankle replacement surgery

Cons

  • Lacks clear upfront pricing and timeline details

Thankful for his talented care

“Dr Tu is the best.  He did foot surgery on my 88 yr old mother.  Everything he said he delivered on: she would be able to walk out immediately after surgery with a special shoe and she would be mobile. We are extremely pleased with the outcome and her rapidly improving mobility.  Dr Tu is very approachable and has called me directly to answer questions and also my mother when she was having doubts.  His staff is very accommodating and proactive (ALL of them). If I ever need foot or ankle surgery,  I will fly to San Diego and have him do it.  We are very thankful for his talented care”

Highly recommend Dr. Richard Tu

“After several recommendations from other patients, and seeing other podiatrist, I choose Dr. Richard Tu to perform Lapiplasty bunion correction on my foot because of his experience, knowledge, success rate, bedside manner and pleasant demeanor.  After putting it off for years, I’m so glad I finally had the surgery and can walk again without toe/foot pain.  I highly recommend Dr. Richard Tu.  He and his office staff are friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and accommodating.  He also successfully, and finally, removed/corrected my son’s ingrown toenails (from wearing work boots) that other docs couldn’t seem to fix.”
