Breaking into the entertainment industry can feel like it requires a move north, but Los Angeles Acting Studio SD brings a strong dose of Hollywood-style training to San Diego.
The studio is led by veteran coach Andrew Benne. They have active filmmakers and directors helping students work on personal branding, audition technique, and business survival skills.
I liked that the program does not stop at scene work. The regular Los Angeles agent showcases give students a practical reason to keep sharpening their material without making the freeway commute every week.
The downside is that this is not a casual drop-in class. Students go through an interview and audition before enrolling.
The two-year Hybrid Meisner certificate track also takes serious money, time, and commitment.
Transformed me into someone confident
I don’t know if I can fully express what Los Angeles Acting Studio means to me. Andrew, Irene, Connie, and Kimmy were able to transform me from someone who knew little about acting and was incredibly self conscious into someone who can confidently be in the moment on stage. Learn the ins and outs of the industry
This is the best acting studio I have attended in many many years. The teachings are great for actors to be able to access emotions, react off each other, be camera ready, and learn the ins and outs of the industry. The best thing that this studio teaches actors accomplish in my opinion, is to lift the filter between what’s going on inside your emotions and what’s coming out in your performance!

Actors Workshop Studios is a strong fit if your main goal is camera comfort. Its setup includes a professional three-camera studio.
This allows students to get used to marks, angles, playback, and the technical rhythm of screen acting before stepping onto a larger set.
The school has also been part of the local acting scene since 1989. Its connections have led to auditions and showcases with names like Home Box Office (HBO) and Universal.
That makes it useful for students who want career-focused training instead of a purely recreational class.
The program leans fully into film, television, commercials, and hosting. Anyone hoping for classical theater or Shakespeare training will need another studio.

BB Acting Studios is focused on helping kids and teens build confidence through on-camera acting training in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
A nice detail parents often appreciate is that the coaches are working actors themselves, so they bring real industry experience into the classroom.
The studio also offers parent-focused seminars that break down how the entertainment industry works. This can be helpful for families navigating auditions and casting decisions for the first time.
The main limitation is the age range. Programs are strictly for children and teens between 4 and 18, so adults aren’t included.
Availability can also be tight, especially for audition filming sessions, which aren’t always guaranteed for last-minute bookings due to demand.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Brooke Byler Acting Studio and Mr. Mike, the acting coach. My daughter has been attending this studio for some time now and it is hands down her favorite activity. Mr. Mike is a talented and caring coach who truly brings out the best in the kids. The atmosphere is so encouraging and fun.

WCI Studios works well for actors who hate sitting through oversized classes. The studio caps groups at eight students, which means more time actually working on the camera and less time waiting for your turn.
Run by veteran actor Billy Cowart, the classes focus heavily on camera intimacy, fresh scripts, and breaking habits that can make performances feel stiff.
I also like the pay-as-you-go setup because it lowers the pressure for actors who want serious coaching without locking into a long contract.
The catch is that this is not a standard full-time campus. Classes are mostly virtual, with in-person sessions happening only when the founder is in town.
Working instructors may also need to adjust schedules when jobs come up.

Billy is a great acting coach. If you want to learn to be intimate with the camera and get rid of acting, he will help coach and refine that through your training. There are 3 teachers I recommend in San Diego and Billy is one of them.

San Diego Junior Theatre is a classic choice for young performers who want real stage experience instead of only camera work. The organization has been building youth performers since 1948.
Its home at the Casa del Prado Theatre in Balboa Park gives kids and teens a memorable setting.
The curriculum is especially helpful for students who want structure. It lines up with state arts standards and covers live performance disciplines in a way that feels more like a serious theater program than a casual after-school activity.
That said, adults will need to look elsewhere because enrollment is limited to ages 4 to 18.
Classes also meet only once a week during the academic year, and parents are not allowed to watch regular rehearsals.
Absolutely loves everything about it
My child has been attending San Diego Junior Theatre on and off for the past two years, including their summer camps, and absolutely loves everything about it. The teachers are incredibly professional and dedicated, and it has gradually become one of the extracurricular activities my child looks forward to every week.
