Address: 7510 Hazard Center Dr #619 San Diego, CA 92108
Contact: (619) 376-6313
Hours: Monday – Friday: 1 pm – 9 pm
Arthur Murray Dance Studio Rancho Bernardo uses a highly personalized approach designed to get beginners moving immediately. Their interrelated teaching method allows you to transition between multiple styles without needing your own partner.
I attended an introductory session here recently, and the instructor had me confidently stepping to the rhythm within minutes.
The personalized pacing keeps you engaged. However, the sales-forward franchise model can feel intense if you prefer casual commitments. The curriculum heavily relies on pushing package upgrades and tier advancements. You will face frequent pitches for larger lesson blocks, which require a much higher upfront financial commitment than standard drop-in fees.

My hubby and I wanted to learn a few dance steps before his niece’s wedding, so we dropped by Arthur Murray’s Dance Studio in Mission Valley, finding everything we needed and more! Plenty of free parking, most welcoming staff, knowledgeable professionals and a special bonus of learning how to be more confident and enjoy
the experience with our “dance coach,” Chante P. – a true treasure for both of us!

Contact: (619) 934-2999 Office | (619) 714-2852 Text
Hours: Monday and Wednesday 09:00 am – 08:30 pm; Tuesday and Thursday 09:00 am – 09:00 pm; Friday to Saturday By Appointment
Maraya Performing Arts offers a direct bridge to professional careers through their managed talent pool and elite industry mentorship. You receive instruction from working professionals with extensive Broadway and Hollywood credits.
Their socially-engaged foundation actively prioritizes diversity, providing a welcoming haven for diverse individuals and specialized adaptive programming for youth.
On the downside, the intensive focus on professional industry standards creates a highly structured environment that might intimidate someone looking for a casual fitness routine. Similar to finding the right swimming lesson, you have to ensure the studio’s rigor matches your personal goals.
Additionally, the Chula Vista location makes the commute tough for dancers living in northern or central neighborhoods.

Enrolling my neurodivergent daughter in theatre was probably one of the most impactful decision I ever made for her. Maraya did not just become an outlet for her creative expression. It also became her therapy, her advocate and her community! The rigorous and thorough training has improved her focus, discipline and love for performing arts. I’m grateful for Maraya for encouraging her to come out of her shell, and for allowing her to be her true authentic self. Maraya is more than a theatre school, it’s family!

Maraya’s provides the ideal space for all children, from all backgrounds, to find their voices and share their passions. Miss AJ and her team work so hard to instill values of teamwork, hard work, and self confidence so our kids have a full toolbox off stage to take on life’s challenges. We are SO grateful to have found this program!

3. West Coast Dance Complex, Carmel Valley

Website:http://www.westcoastdance.com/
Address: 5550 Carmel Mountain Road, Suite 210, San Diego, CA 92130
Contact: (858) 925-7599 | [email protected]
Hours: Mon – Fri: 2:30 pm – 8 pm | Sat: 9 am – 1 pm
Gaining access to elite-level technique requires top-tier instruction, and West Coast Dance Complex provides exactly that through a world-class faculty of former professional performers. Their audition-only pre-professional track offers intensive training for serious students aiming for stage careers.
Parents can comfortably monitor this high-level instruction via real-time video feeds located in the facility’s modern lobby.
While the training is excellent, the selective entry requirements for advanced programs create a high barrier for students who don’t pass the audition. The strict level placement protocols restrict in-person communication with instructors, forcing families to handle concerns strictly via email.
Furthermore, the Carmel Valley location presents a significant logistical disadvantage for dancers commuting from downtown areas.

We love Weat Coast Dance studio! Our daughter has learned so much and gained so much confidence. The teachers are caring, professional, and make every class fun. The studio is welcoming, well-run, and truly focused on the kids. Highly recommend!

West Coast Dance Complex has been the most amazing experience for my daughter! Ms. Shelbi, Ms. Emily and, really, every single teacher she has interacted with at West Coast has been both demanding and nurturing all at the same time. She has made incredible friends with her classmates and now teammates, and has made great strides in her technique and ability to learn choreography. We couldn’t ask for a better place for her to take dance!

4. La Vie Dance Studios

Website:http://www.lavie.dance/
Address: 1255 West Morena Blvd, San Diego, California, 92110
Contact: (619) 560-6281 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday to Sunday 9:00 AM – 11:30 PM
La Vie Dance Studios is a multi-disciplinary creative hub specializing in global cultural styles like Argentine Tango and Sol Zouk. They emphasize a boutique, non-competitive atmosphere that helps adult learners feel comfortable exploring their artistic side.
I took a weekend workshop here last month and loved the intimate vibe, which felt completely different from high-volume commercial gyms.
Additionally, the professional sprung wood floors and lighting systems are fantastic.
That said, the studio’s niche focus means you will not find classical ballet or high-intensity fitness classes here.
Another con is that many sessions are taught by independent instructors on limited weekly schedules. Working with independent dance instructors is quite similar to booking personal trainers, meaning your desired style might only be available once a week.
Customer Reviews
I attended a weekend event at this studio, and it was fantastic! Beautiful venue with a gorgeous wood floor, a sophisticated lighting system, great sound, and excellent airflow (with both AC and large ceiling fans). The current owners transformed what was a stale white box into the premiere dance space in San Diego.

This is where I do my dance classes every week definitely a experience every time I love it. I can’t wait to go again. This studio let’s you rent out the space for classes. It has a studio upstairs which is pretty big and a smaller one down stairs. Definitely a place if you need a dance class or a rehearsal space is needed.

5. Starlight Dance Studio

Website:http://starlightdance.com/
Address: 6506 El Cajon Blvd, Suite H, San Diego, CA 92115
Contact: (619) 287-9036 | [email protected]
Hours: Mon – Fri: 5:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Finding a welcoming space for partner dancing is easy at Starlight Dance Studio, which operates as a proudly gender-neutral and inclusive queer-safe environment. They implement a rotation system that allows anyone to lead or follow, eliminating the need to bring your own partner.
The dual ballroom facility provides ample room for specialized social styles like West Coast Swing and Country Two-Step.
On the downside, because the schedule is heavily concentrated on social partner routines, dancers seeking solo performance styles will find a severe lack of options here.
Not to mention, the drop-in rate is slightly higher than basic community programs, which may deter highly budget-conscious beginners. Short-notice class cancellations also occasionally happen due to fluctuating volume requests, requiring you to monitor their calendar closely.

Two great floors, nice sound system, friendly people, clean bathrooms, nearby parking – what’s there not too love?! Plus you get to dance or teach dance in my case. Always look forward to going to this studio.

Debbie Torgeson teaches wonderful dance classes for adults at Starlight. I have taken jazz, ballet and pointe classes with her over the last 10 years. It’s low pressure, you wear what you want, she’s great about breaking it all down for beginners and keeping it challenging for those who are more experienced. Highly recommend!
