This company was founded by Nicholas J. Ferraro in 2018 and was joined shortly by Lauren N. Vega as a partner in 2020.
Ferraro has been among the San Diego Business Journal’s Top 100 Leaders in Law, while Vega was recognized in U.S. News’ Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch.
The two spent years at major corporate firms, like Duane Morris and Procopio. We believe they now have insider knowledge to anticipate defense strategies and level the playing field for individuals.
When it comes to rates, they operate almost exclusively on a contingency fee basis. Basically, you won’t pay anything up front, and they’ll only collect a fee if they win or settle the case.
However, a potential drawback for us is that these lawyers can be very selective about their cases. A client we spoke with mentioned that those with smaller claims that aren’t legally airtight might find it difficult to secure representation.

This firm operates in a contingency fee model as well. Clients pay $0 upfront, as the company covers all litigation costs and only takes a percentage of the final settlement or jury award.
But as a boutique firm, they have fewer admin staff than massive defense firms. A client mentioned that the company is sometimes understaffed, and this impacts their communication speed.

They use a mix of billing methods as well. For individual employees, they usually offer a no-recovery, no-fee model. The fees typically range from 33% to 40% of the final settlement.

Nonetheless, a client who was on an hourly model told us that costs can spiral quickly. Filing fees, expert witness depositions, and extensive document reviews are often billed separately, which can lead to significant increases if not carefully managed.

Their founder, Josh Gruenberg, has also been named a California Super Lawyer. In our view, this showcases the company’s long-standing recognition in employment and consumer law circles.
And unlike many “settlement mills” that avoid the courtroom, Gruenberg is a decorated trial lawyer. It’s incredible for us that he was named the 2023 Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego (CASD).
In our opinion, that kind of recognition confirms that he has the respect of his peers and the ability to win in front of a jury.
Moreover, we feel pretty good about their extensive record of 6 and 7-figure results. This includes a $1.1 million jury verdict for disability discrimination in 2019.
Just note that for standard litigation, they often charge a 40% contingency fee, which is on the higher end of the San Diego market. Their hourly rate is $800 per hour as well, much higher than average.
