We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Culinary Innovation: We wanted chefs who aren’t afraid to get creative, using local, seasonal ingredients and cool new techniques. The best tasting menus keep things fresh and surprise you every time you visit.

Atmosphere and Setting: A great meal needs a great setting, so we looked for places with a cozy vibe, friendly service, and a space that matches the quality of the food.

Beverage Programs: Food is even better with the right drinks, so we favored restaurants with impressive wine lists and fun non-alcoholic pairings, making sure everyone finds something they like.

Value and Accessibility: If you’re paying higher prices, you should get an amazing experience from the first bite to the last. We made sure the portions, ingredients, and service are all worth the bill at the end.

Celebrating a big milestone calls for something unforgettable, and that’s exactly what you get at Addison, Southern California’s first and only three-Michelin-star restaurant.

Here, chef William Bradley serves up a 10-course California Gastronomy menu that changes with the seasons. One guest told us they still think about the amazing flavors from their visit last winter.

Every dish highlights fresh, local ingredients, and the global wine list has perfect pairings for each course. You can even make your night more special by visiting their exclusive Champagne Lounge.

Plus, the beautiful dining room also offers gorgeous views that really make the price feel a little more worth it.

Just keep in mind that you’ll need to book well in advance and stick to the strict reservation rules. There’s a big penalty if you cancel late, and they won’t accommodate vegan requests.

Pros

  • Incredible 10-course seasonal menu
  • Stunning dining room views
  •
  • Exclusive Champagne Lounge experience

Cons

  •
  • No vegan menu options

The chef’s tasting menu flows perfectly

Absolutely incredible. The dining experience felt like you were a part of a perfectly choreographed performance. The service was impeccable and the wait staff was extremely knowledgeable about every item. Each dish was unique and filled with so much flavor. The chef’s tasting menu flows perfectly. It was truly a memorable experience.

One of the most brilliant chef tasting and overall dining experiences

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! One of the most brilliant chef tasting and overall dining experiences I’ve ever had. From when we arrived to when we left everything was top notch!  Service and friendliness of the entire staff alone was worthy of a 5 star rating but paired with the amazing menu makes the ADDISON one of my favorite restaurants ever! Just so you know it will come at a hefty price tag but anything worth having usually does.

2. Black Radish

Address: 2591 University Avenue4

Contact: 619-269-1980

Hours: Wednesday-Saturday 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Black Radish brings a uniquely intimate, New York-style fine dining atmosphere while serving a brilliant mix of California ingredients and classic French techniques. We visited here recently, and we loved the relaxed, personal vibe.

This is really the perfect place to enjoy an upscale meal without dealing with stiff, pretentious service. They even offer private event bookings if you want to host a larger celebration.

The seasonal tasting menu constantly evolves, meaning you can visit multiple times a year and try entirely new creations.

However, the portion sizes lean on the smaller side, which might leave some folks feeling a bit hungry afterward.

Also, the pacing can drag slightly between courses during busy nights. So, plan for a leisurely evening rather than a quick bite.

Pros

  • Seasonally rotating California and French fusion menu
  •
  • Supports reservations for larger groups and events
  • Evolving dishes highlight fresh local ingredients

Cons

  •
  • Slower pacing between courses on busy nights

Tasting menu was a great price

We absolutely loved coming here to celebrate our marriage. One of our new fav restaurants in San Diego. Service and food was fantastic.

Tasting menu was a great price. Def needs to be on the Michelin Guide.

A fantastic dinner

we had a fantastic dinner and we would recommend the tasting menu! met the chef, she’s awesome. though professional, the radish has the feeling of dining with friends at a dinner party. don’t skip the soup! my wife would only share a little of hers.

Address: 222 North Pacific Street, Oceanside

Contact: 866-723-8906

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM

If you’re craving bold, wood-fired flavors, Valle in Oceanside is a must-visit spot. This Michelin-starred restaurant stands out for their focus on Baja California’s traditions and the use of fresh, sustainable ingredients.

Executive Chef Roberto Alcocer puts together a multi-course menu with a zero-waste mindset. The team sources everything locally, so every bite tastes incredibly fresh.

They’ve even got three types of drink pairings, including a well-crafted non-alcoholic option.

If you want a truly memorable night, you’d better book the Chef’s Table inside the kitchen for a front-row seat to the action.

Just be ready for the staff to strongly encourage some of the pricier wine pairings, since a few guests have mentioned the upselling can sometimes take away from the laid-back vibe.

Pros

  • Michelin-starred contemporary Baja California flavors
  • Immersive kitchen-side Chef’s Table experience
  •
  • Strong zero-waste and local sustainability focus

Cons

  • Proactive upselling of expensive wine pairings

Just an incredible evening all around

Truly a 10/10 fine dining experience. It was such a treat to experience the delights of the Valle de Guadalupe in Oceanside with all of the complex and elevated Mexican flavors you love. Service was top notch, Kwan was incredible. We did the tasting menu – all of it was amazing but the trout tom kha and corn ice cream were SO delicious and unique, just an incredible evening all around. Would recommend to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in north county.

The tasting menu is a culinary adventure of explosive flavors and textures

One of the best meals I’ve ever had! The tasting menu is a culinary adventure of explosive flavors and textures. The Service was incredible and the restaurant is beautiful. I plan on taking a trip to Oceanside once a year just to patronize Valle.

Chef Elijah Arizmendi shows off great skills and uses the freshest local ingredients.

The wood-fired flavors in the menu pair perfectly with their impressive wine list that has everything from California to Burgundy.

If you’re planning a celebration with friends, you can even rent their ocean-view terrace for a totally private dinner.

On the downside, they’re very strict with their menu and can’t make changes for vegan, vegetarian, or dairy-free diners.

Additionally, every reservation is fully prepaid and non-refundable. Some guests even mentioned that the booth seating can get uncomfortable during such a long meal.

Pros

  • Expansive 12-course menu
  •
  • Extensive international wine list
  • Private ocean-view terrace for special events

Cons

  •

NINE-TEN Restaurant & Bar stands out for their flexibility and high-quality, globally inspired California cuisine. With MICHELIN Guide recognition, Executive Chef Jason Knibb brings farm-to-table cooking to life, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

You can jump right into their Chef’s Choice Tasting Menu or stick to à la carte; you get plenty of options.

Plus, they serve breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch, so you can visit any time of day.

The only downside is the dining room sits next to a busy bar, so it can get loud, which sometimes kills the romantic vibe for a special night out.

Also, keep in mind they automatically add a 20% gratuity to your bill.

Pros

  • Daily changing farm-to-table seasonal dishes
  • Flexible Chef’s Choice or à la carte options
  • Highly accessible with breakfast, lunch, and brunch
  • Private event spaces available for up to 65 guests

Cons

  • Disruptive noise from the adjacent bar area
  • Automatic 20% gratuity added to the check

Every dish was absolutely delicious

I had an incredible experience at Nine Ten Restaurant tonight! We indulged in the tasting menu, and every dish was absolutely delicious. Our server, Jose, was fantastic—super attentive and friendly. He made sure we had everything we needed and provided great insights about each course. The whole team was on point, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I can’t wait to come back! Highly recommend!

Everything on the menu is dependably delicious

The chef’s tasting menu (Mercy of the Chef) is a lot of fun here. Everything on the menu is dependably delicious so getting six courses chosen for you by the chef makes for a very interesting and enjoyable experience. The tasting portions are well considered. Getting different dishes from your fellow diners makes for a fun shared experience.

The service is efficient and personable. The atmosphere is mellow and modern. Nine-ten is great for a fancy dinner, date, or other appropriate affair.
