Trying to look professional with a blurry selfie is like showing up to an interview in slippers. It might be comfortable, but it does not exactly inspire confidence.
More importantly, a poorly lit photo can weaken trust before we even get the chance to introduce ourselves.
But reliable headshot services in San Diego solve that by using proper lighting, flattering angles, and guided posing to create a more polished image. Whether it is for LinkedIn or comparing other photographers in the city, the right photo helps us look truly credible.
With that in mind, we reviewed local studios and photographers known for confident and professional headshots that make a stronger first impression.
How much do headshot services in San Diego cost?
Headshot services in San Diego cost around $150 to $450 per session, with studio packages often ranging from $250 to $295. However, rates depend on the photographer’s experience, session length, and number of final edited images.

Operating Hours:
- Tuesday-Thursday: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Friday-Saturday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
San Diego Professional Headshots is a strong fit for anyone who wants a polished photo but feels awkward in front of the camera. Since the studio focuses specifically on headshots, the process feels more intentional than a basic portrait session.
Led by Donald Carlton, the studio brings a branding-focused approach to each session. Its 15+ years of experience and 5,000+ photographed clients can also give its work a strong sense of credibility and consistency.
What makes the process especially helpful is the amount of guidance clients receive. Sessions include coaching for posing, expression, and body language, so clients are not left guessing what to do.
Packages range from $199 to $695, so clients can choose what fits their needs and budget. Options include express sessions, executive headshots, environment portraits, and ERAS residency photos.
The only drawback is that the style may feel too formal for clients who want something more casual, playful, or creative.
The shoot went flawlessly
“I hired San Diego Professional Headshots to do a 2-day corporate headshot event. Don was exceptionally collaborative, professional, flexible and responsive to all of our needs and changes. The shoot went flawlessly, we completed over 150 employee headshots, and everyone had a very positive experience. The photos came out beautifully. 10/10 would recommend and hire Don again!”

“What an amazing experience. I was in and out within 15 minutes, but did not feel rushed at all. My photo gallery was ready before I could even drive home. The photos were outstanding and very professional. I would highly recommend San Diego Professional Headshots for anyone needing high quality head shot photos!”

Contact Details: +18584137030
Operating Hours:

San Diego Headshots by Laurens Antoine is particularly famous for companies needing consistent headshots for conventions. They can set up on-site for visiting teams, making it easier to photograph several people during a busy event.
This studio was built in 2011. For larger groups, their 3,000-square-foot studio offers a more production-ready space near the city’s convention area.
Backed by Laurens Antoine’s 25 years of celebrity and magazine photography experience, the studio brings a more editorial eye to its headshots. It also has 35 years of combined team experience and has photographed 3,000+ actors and models.
Even better, their 20+ person team supports the work. This includes everyone from designers, stylists, and makeup artists to assistants and customer service staff.
What makes the experience more approachable is their camera-shy-friendly process. They keep sessions simple, then use advanced lighting with up to 9 lights and LBT retouching to create natural-looking images.
Fortunately, packages start at $199, which is fair for the level of production and support they provide. However, weekend availability is limited.
They immediately put me at ease
“Laurens did a fantastic job with my first headshot. I arrived feeling quite nervous, but they immediately put me at ease and captured an incredible shot. The entire process was seamless, professional, and exceeded all my expectations. I highly recommend them!”

3. Happy Hour Headshot San Diego

Address: 3000 Upas St, CA 92104
Contact Details: +17203067404
Operating Hours:
- Monday-Sunday: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Instead of starting in a traditional studio, Happy Hour Headshot San Diego begins sessions at any local cafe.
You usually have a short consultation over coffee before shooting outdoors nearby and returning to review your images. This relaxed setup makes the experience feel less intimidating, especially if you’re camera-shy.
Even with the casual format, the session still feels guided and organized. Each session includes 1 hour with the photographer, including a 20 to 25-minute photoshoot with multiple urban backgrounds and outfit changes.
Valerie Durham is their San Diego photographer. She’s been shooting in Southern California since 2005, which adds solid experience to the process.
The final images are also practical for professional use. You receive natural-looking edits with adjustments for color, exposure, and sharpening. Depending on the package, you may also receive black-and-white duplicates or Glow Up portrait edits.
Another practical perk we love is their low-risk pricing model. You pay a $50 sign-up deposit, review your photos first, and then choose a package from $375 to $575.
The service also covers areas like downtown and other parts of San Diego. However, if you prefer a controlled studio setup, the outdoor cafe-based style may feel less fitting.
Sessions are infused with joy, creativity, and fun
“Working with Rose in Seattle was an awesome experience. She infused our session with joy, creativity and fun. We met in my Ballard neighborhood and quickly got to work. She put me at ease while we visited several locations to get plenty of shots. I loved the selection and variety and how quickly they were available. I highly recommend working with Rose at Happy Hour Headshot.”

We are drawn to how San Diego Headshots covers several professional image needs in one place. They handle business headshots, personal branding photos, and social media images. This is along actor shots and author portraits.
Each session is custom-designed around the client’s goals. That could mean a single branding photo, an on-location shoot, or a full company layout with office and employee images.
The studio setup also supports polished results. Using 35,000+ watts of studio lighting, the team can create clean, controlled, and sharp images in one appointment.
Experience is another strong point. With 15,000+ happy clients, 3,000,000+ images taken, and 200+ published editorials, the studio has a strong record of producing professional photos.
We also appreciate the structured support from a studio manager, production manager, and studio assistant. Plus, the makeup artist here brings 18+ years of experience, including work connected to New York, Milan, and Paris Fashion Week.
Not to mention, a $179 new client special makes this provider more approachable. However, clients looking for a simple profile update may not need the full custom session experience.
Having a comfortable session means you get great smiles
“My 3rd experience with Nicholas over the last 6 years. He is very welcoming, relatable, and professional and makes you feel comfortable when taking pictures which can feel intimidating. I loved my first experience with professional pictures with Nicholas that he came first to mind when needing my son’s senior photos because I knew my son wouldn’t want to do this activity. But he made him feel at ease and had a great experience. Having a comfortable session means you get great smiles. It was another easy decision to have my 2nd son have his senior portraits done as well yesterday. With such a great experience my husband wanted in on the action as well. He has a quick same day turn around. I highly recommend Nicholas’s professional services.”
- Joy K, Google Review
Went above and beyond
“Nicholas is a truly exceptional photographer AND human being. I accidentally scheduled my photoshoot a week later than meant to, and Nicholas actually drove down to his studio in Friday afternoon traffic (where I was waiting for my appt that was apparently a week later lol) to do my headshots then. He went above and beyond – doing tons of different angles, giving excellent guidance on how to position my body/head, even doing multiple backdrop colors. As if that weren’t enough – he actually explained to me about the 255 color shades there are and how max white (255) tends to wash people out, which is why he prefers using around 240-245 for a softer, more flattering white background. I’m a person who likes to understand the “sausage making” so I really appreciated his depth of knowledge and his willingness to share it. To top it all off – he sent me all the digital prints the same day!!! (he knew I had to send the final head shot to my corporate events team at work in only a couple days). I’ve officially been spoiled by working with Nicholas and will be recommending him to anyone and everyone I know who needs headshots. TYSM NICHOLAS!!!!”

However, the pricing may feel too costly for someone who only needs a quick personal profile photo.
Tim is an absolute pro
“Tim is an absolute pro at his job! I could tell within the first 15 seconds of our session that he knew exactly what he was doing, and he made it a fun experience as well. I’m very happy with my photos and I would absolutely recommend him.”
