The 5 Best Kids Dentists in San Diego Who Make Dental Visits Less Scary

kids-dentists-in-san-diego
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Clinical Expertise: We verified that the dental professionals hold proper board certifications in pediatric care. This ensures they have the specialized training necessary to handle growing jaws and child behavior.

Office Environment: Our evaluation focused heavily on how welcoming and distraction-rich the clinic spaces are for young patients. A fun atmosphere goes a long way in lowering a child's natural anxiety before sitting in the chair.

Service Variety: We looked for practices that offer comprehensive care ranging from standard cleanings to advanced dental solutions. Having specialized treatments available means you do not have to drive all over town for separate appointments.

Scheduling Flexibility: We analyzed the office hours to see how well they accommodate busy school and work routines. Practices that offer convenient time slots or weekend options scored much higher in our book.

Let’s face it, taking your little ones to the dental office can feel like gearing up for a major battle. Between the scary-looking tools and the clinical smells, it’s no wonder children get anxious.

That’s why finding the absolute best kids dentists in San Diego is such a lifesaver for parents trying to keep those tiny smiles healthy. You want a welcoming spot where the team knows how to handle tantrums, soothe fears, and actually make oral hygiene feel like an adventure.

If you’re not sure where to start, we did the heavy lifting for you. We found the top pediatric dental offices around the city so you can avoid the clinic drama.

Address: 6495 Alvarado Rd Suite 102, San Diego, CA 92120, United States

Contact: 619-887-4069

Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Managing dental visits for a neurodivergent child can be incredibly challenging. Luckily, Pediatric Dentistry of San Diego provides sensory-aware care tailored for kids with complex medical needs.

Their office features board-certified pediatric specialists and a dual board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist on staff to deliver exceptionally safe, in-house sedation.

Dr. Mahmood is a mother of two who understands parental worries. She also coordinates closely with her husband, an adult general dentist, to offer long-term family care from birth until age 21.

One of our colleagues actually takes her son here and loves how the team creates a profoundly calm atmosphere that eases severe dental anxiety.

On the downside, they only operate out of one single location on Alvarado Road, which can mean battling heavy traffic.

Also, their weekday-only hours might make scheduling a bit tough for working parents.

Pros

  • Board-certified pediatric dentists
  • In-house pediatric anesthesiologist
  • Sensory-aware care for neurodivergent kids
  • Long-term care up to age 21

Cons

  • Only one office location
  • Weekday-only office hours

This place is very kid-friendly and a wonderful place to start your child’s dental care routine. I was initially nervous about bringing my toddler, but the staff was so professional and welcoming that my worries quickly went away. My child had a great experience, and we now come here regularly for his checkups and routine maintenance.

I switched to this dentist after our old one was very aggressive with a treatment plan. The dentist here was so kind and the office is so kid friendly! Turns out we didn’t need something so aggressive and they took care of our needs here just fine.

Website: https://starrysmilez.com/

Address: 10717 Camino Ruiz, Suite 103 San Diego, CA 92126

Contact: (858) 536-1111

Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Saturday Call for hours

Walking into Children’s Dentistry of San Diego honestly feels more like entering an indoor play space than a typical dental clinic, which really helps make checkups less intimidating for kids.

The entire office is designed around children, and they even have a dedicated game room to keep toddlers entertained and relaxed during visits.

They rely on a proactive prevention-first philosophy to guide proper jaw growth and prevent cavities early on.

The founders, Dr. Cuisia and Dr. Dabir, are a married couple who bring a warm, empathetic dynamic to their care. They provide a wide range of dental care, from laser dentistry to infant frenectomies.

But you should know that their only office is located in the Mira Mesa area, which creates a long commute for families in coastal or southern neighborhoods.

Plus, while they do offer some Saturday availability, these weekend hours are limited and conditional, meaning you have to call ahead to secure a spot.

Pros

  • Board-certified specialized pediatric training
  • Advanced treatments like laser dentistry
  • Office features a fun game room
  • Proactive prevention-first care philosophy

Cons

  • Single location in Mira Mesa
  • Limited and conditional Saturday hours

Absolutely love children’s dentistry of SD. We’ve been taking pur kids for 9 years (since our oldest was born). I love that its pediatric and all the staff are amazing and always so welcoming. My kids even love it and always feel happy to come too, never scared! I’ve referred many others here who all enjoy this office as well!

Been coming here since my children were little little. All the doctors and staffs have been amazing and so very good with the kids. They are great with reminders so you don’t forget your appointments. Came in today and Molly was so sweet and good with my child making him feel not anxious. Dr. Sabrina was wonderful, sweet and gentle. Highly recommend this dentistry for the kiddos.

3. Kensington Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics

Website: http://www.kpdds.com/

Address: 4072 Adams Avenue San Diego, CA 92116

Contact: (619) 282-7337 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 AM–5 PM; Saturday, 8 AM–2 PM

Kensington Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics makes family scheduling a lot easier since they combine pediatric dentistry and orthodontic care in one office.

Every pediatric dentist here is board-certified, and the team focuses on minimally invasive treatment methods instead of jumping straight to aggressive drilling.

They also offer several sedation options for anxious kids, which can make visits much less stressful for families.

Another big plus is that they’re well-known Invisalign providers, so older teens and even parents can get orthodontic care there too.

We stopped by their Adams Avenue location for an undercover consult and were honestly impressed by how smoothly the staff handled such a busy office.

The biggest downside is probably parking. The area gets crowded, so you’ll usually have to deal with tight street parking, which can be frustrating during busy hours.

Their after-school appointments are also in really high demand, so routine cleanings often need to be booked months ahead.

Pros

  • Centrally located on Adams Avenue
  • Fully board-certified pediatric specialists
  • Full spectrum of sedation choices

Cons

  • Challenging street parking situation
  • High demand for afternoon slots

Been taking my kids here for over 10 years. Great staff and doctors. Always patient, kind and compassionate. Clinic is always immaculately clean and appointments are quick and painless. My kids love going to the dentist!

Hours: Monday to Friday 9 AM – 5 PM

Coastal Kids Dentistry & Orthodontics does a great job creating a less stressful experience for anxious kids, especially with the amount of technology they use to make treatments more comfortable.

They use modern pediatric tools like the STA (Single Tooth Anesthesia) computerized pain-free injection system and ultra-safe digital radiography to slash radiation exposure.

The treatment rooms also feature overhead TVs and noise-canceling headphones to keep children thoroughly distracted during procedures.

We also like that they combine pediatric dentistry and orthodontics in one place, which makes scheduling a lot easier for busy families

Just note that they stick to a strict weekday-only schedule with no regular Saturday availability.

Additionally, their geographic reach is limited to just two physical locations in Carmel Valley and South Bay. Families living in East County or central neighborhoods face a pretty long commute for routine appointments.

Pros

  • Combined pediatric dental and orthodontics
  • Computerized pain-free injection system
  • Overhead TVs and noise-canceling headphones
  • Specialized child behavior management team

Cons

  • No weekend or Saturday hours

5. All Smiles Dentistry

all-smiles-dentistry

Website: http://allsmilespediatricdentist.com/

Address: 7695 Cardinal Court, Suite 250 San Diego, CA 92123

Contact: 858-737-9000

Hours: Monday to Thursday 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Building long-term trust with a nervous child is highly dependent on consistency, which is why All Smiles Dentistry guarantees complete continuity of care. Your child will see the exact same dentist for every single visit, preventing the anxiety of rotating staff.

Unlike general adult practices that perform major restorative work like dental implants, the team here focuses entirely on pediatric development.

The clinical leader, Dr. Job, holds multiple advanced scientific degrees and balances his private practice with serving as a university professor.

He uses soft-tissue laser technology for precise infant tongue-tie releases and offers same-day oral health assessments required for local kindergarten entry.

However, because they rely on a small team to maintain a personalized touch, their appointment capacity is limited, causing potential scheduling bottlenecks.

Their single central office on Cardinal Court can also be a logistical hassle for families living in outlying suburbs.

Pros

  • Board-certified academic faculty leadership
  • Guaranteed care continuity with same dentist
  • Flexible membership plans and Medi-Cal accepted
  • Same-day mandatory kindergarten health assessments

Cons

  • Limited appointment capacity and bottlenecks
  • Single centralized physical office location

Customer Reviews

We took our 1-year-old son for his dental visit, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience! The whole team was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They went out of their way to make our little one feel comfortable by talking to him, playing, and making it a fun experience instead of a scary one. We felt very welcomed and well cared for. Highly recommend this office for anyone looking for a great pediatric dentist!

Great staff and overall great first experience. We were lucky to have been paired with Marisol because she was kind, patient and very personable. I am so glad we found this new dentist for my daughter  🙂
