We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Diagnostic Precision: We looked closely at how thoroughly each clinic assesses hearing health using modern evaluation methods. It was important to find providers who look at the whole auditory system rather than just running quick tests.

Provider Expertise: We evaluated the clinical qualifications and specializations of the staff, ensuring they handle varied needs like pediatric care or advanced tinnitus management.

Having knowledgeable experts who explain things clearly makes a massive difference in patient comfort.

Device Options: Our team examined the variety of hearing technology and device brands each center offers to patients. Having access to multiple manufacturers ensures you get a customized fit that matches your lifestyle.

Patient Support: We checked the quality of ongoing care, including follow-up fittings and maintenance services. True hearing rehabilitation requires long-term adjustments and continuous support to be successful.

Finding the right medical professional can feel overwhelming, whether you’re exploring acupuncture for wellness or coordinating specialized elder care for a family member.

When it comes to your hearing health, the best audiologist in San Diego is essential for getting accurate answers and clear treatment options. Misunderstandings in conversations or missing out on the sounds of everyday life can be incredibly isolating.

Fortunately, the local area has some wonderful clinics staffed by caring specialists who listen to your concerns. We took a close look at the top hearing centers in town to help you find a trusted partner who can guide you toward clearer hearing.

Their advanced treatment protocols include tailored sound therapy alongside Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) to help train your brain to filter out those disruptive internal noises.

During my visit to chat with their team, I noticed how they prioritize a brain-focused philosophy that looks beyond basic ear mechanics.

The only real downside is that their initial appointment availability can be a bit tight, so you might need some flexibility when trying to book your first slot.

Pros

  • Structured tinnitus retraining therapy
  • Detailed auditory processing evaluations
  • Multiple major hearing aid brands
  • Brain-based approach to rehabilitation

Cons

  • Limited initial appointment availability

I was able to hear again that same day

Dr Dutton was able to see me quickly when my hearing aids stopped working. She cleaned them and dried them and I was able to hear again that same day.

When I returned she tested my hearing and adjusted all the frequencies that had not been set correctly by my previous audiologist.

I’m so happy I found her and will continue to go to her for all my future appointments.

Felt well taken care of here

In town for a wedding and my left hearing aid stopped working. Was immediately able to get an appointment   Very friendly and competent staff as well as owner/audiologist. Fixed hearing aid at no cost, and sent me home with parts, saying first appointment is always free! I felt well taken care of here.

Skilled and thorough

I’ve had only great experiences at Oliver.from gracious, very helpful Dennise, at the front desk, to skilled and thorough Art, my audiologist and all the techs and staff. They all have been skilled and efficient, friendly and lovely to work with. Dennise even made me tea when I wasn’t feeling well one time.

Address: 3590 Camino Del Rio North, Suite #201

Contact: (619) 717-2601

Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Families searching for comprehensive care that covers both adults and children will find excellent support at ChEARS Hearing Center.

They excel at pediatric audiology and utilize advanced diagnostic tools like tympanometry to accurately measure middle ear function.

A close friend of mine took her young son here and praised their precise hearing aid programming using Real Ear Measurement (REM) technology.

However, some patients have noted that communication regarding care coordination between different internal doctors can feel slightly confusing or inconsistent.

It can also sometimes feel like there’s a bit of pressure to stay within their clinical ecosystem for all your follow-up needs.

Pros

  • Advanced middle ear tympanometry testing
  • Precise real ear measurement fittings
  • Dedicated pediatric audiology care
  • Affiliated with specialized ENT clinics

Cons

  • Confusing internal care coordination
  • Pressure to use internal providers

Worked with me very patiently to come up with a solution

I’ve been to a couple different hearing aid providers, and ChEARS is hands down the best.  I’m an audio professional in the entertainment industry, and somewhat of a difficult patient.  Dr. Kearney worked with me very patiently to come up with a solution that worked for me.  She is the absolute best!

Cares about the quality of hearing

THOROUGH, FRIENDLY, PROFESSIONAL

Dr Nicholas Faillace was very informative and patient with our questions. I brought my mother here to explore getting new hearing aids. Dr Nicholas fallaci was very thorough. He cares about the quality of hearing. The last place we dealt with we’re nice but not as thorough explaining to my mother how her brain needs to adjust to the new sounds and perceived loudness of the new hearing aids and explained how to properly wear them using a chart of the ear canal. The staff was also very friendly. Highly recommend.

Address: 4282 Genesee Ave, Ste. 301

Contact: (858) 279-3277

Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

With two convenient neighborhood locations in Clairemont and Hillcrest, San Diego Hearing Center makes it incredibly easy to attend regular adjustments and counseling sessions.

I love their patient-first framework, which emphasizes comprehensive diagnostic testing and structured, evidence-based fittings tailored entirely to your daily communication goals.

The team provides excellent guidance through the device adaptation phase, offering extensive counseling on maintenance and daily use.

On the downside, some visitors have experienced delayed verification of insurance benefits during their initial consultations.

This can lead to unexpected out-of-pocket cost estimates being presented after your actual appointment has concluded, rather than upfront. It pays to double-check your policy specifics before heading into the office just to prevent any surprises.

Pros

  • Dual locations across local neighborhoods
  • Structured long-term counseling support
  • Thorough sound calibration process
  • Individualized lifestyle technology matching

Cons

  • Delayed upfront pricing clarity

Takes the time to listen to your concerns

Can’t say enough about Dr. Sara Mattson

She’s absolutely the BEST audiologist I’ve ever need to. She takes the time to listen to your concerns and addresses them with a laser-focus. So professional & a lovely human to boot.

Very kind and compassionate

I flew into San Diego from the East coast and needed to see an audiologist immediately. San Diego hearing got me in for a 5pm appt that day.  The care I received from Jessica was outstanding. She diagnosed and solved my problem and was very kind and compassionate too!  I would highly recommend Jessica and this practice. The front desk staff was great too! Thank you all.

Contact: (619) 756-7848

Hours: Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Friday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Anyone seeking an educational, counseling-focused environment will appreciate the tailored approach at Peninsula Hearing & Balance Center.

Operating as a locally owned private practice, they provide structured diagnostic evaluations alongside dedicated tinnitus management that features precise pitch and loudness matching.

They guide you clearly through your test results, ensuring you understand exactly how different devices can support your personal listening lifestyle.

One minor frustration to watch out for is that they treat basic smartphone Bluetooth pairing assistance as a billable service rather than complimentary ongoing support.

Also, certain niche or specialized testing needs, like specific evaluations for pilots, might not be available in the office.

Pros

  • Detailed pitch and loudness matching
  • Focus on patient education and counseling
  • Locally owned private practice setup
  • Comprehensive baseline evaluations

Cons

  • Extra fees for Bluetooth pairing
  • Limited niche specialty testing options

Efficient and professional!

The Dr’s and the staff are so kind and friendly! Most people get a little nervous going to an audiologist, but the staff just makes you feel so comfortable. The waiting room is filled with lovely pictures of the staff and animals. Very comforting. And, of course, Dr.’s Riso and Hernandez are efficient and professional!
