The 5 Best Thyroid Specialists in San Diego Who’ll Give Your Tired Glands a Wake-Up Call

best-thyroid-specialist-san-diego
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

  • Provider Credentials and Specialization: We looked at each doctor’s education, board certifications, and how much they focus on treating thyroid issues.

  • Treatment Methodology: Next, we checked which kinds of treatment each clinic actually uses, from common thyroid meds to more root-cause or holistic plans. This gives you more choice in finding care that matches your own health style.

  • Patient Accessibility and Convenience: We also paid attention to how easy it is to get an appointment, where the clinics are located, and if they offer virtual visits. Care is a lot more helpful when you can actually fit it into your schedule.

  • Pricing Transparency and Insurance: Finally, we made sure to review pricing and insurance info. Knowing the costs upfront, like cash rates and insurance options, can really help prevent any surprise bills.

Feeling tired all the time or dealing with unexpected weight changes can make daily life feel overwhelming, especially if your thyroid test results only add to the confusion. It’s important to find a doctor who really listens and creates a treatment plan just for you.

Some people need help after a brand-new diagnosis, while others might be searching for holistic options instead of standard meds. Luckily, San Diego has some top-notch thyroid specialists that can help.

We did the research and checked out local clinics to make it easier for you to find the best thyroid specialist in San Diego for your personal needs. Read on!

Dealing with constant tiredness or unexpected weight shifts can feel draining, but Dr. John S. Krage, DC, takes a different approach by using nutrition and natural treatments to help your thyroid work better.

When we talked to the front desk, they shared that their nutrition protocols are all about rebuilding your metabolism, rather than just covering up symptoms.

Their treatment style is drug-free, too, and great if you’re interested in more holistic recovery.

But what really makes them stand out is their affordable first visit; just $49 for a 30-minute consultation, including a careful look at any lab work done in the past when available.

However, it’s important to know that they don’t prescribe standard thyroid medication, so they may not be the best fit for people who need traditional hormone therapy.

Pros

  • Dedicated specifically to thyroid care
  • Natural nutritional restoration approach
  • Affordable $49 initial consultation
  • Free review of recent lab work

Cons

  • No standard pharmaceutical prescriptions

Dr.  Krage’s care was very close to perfection

Dr.  Krage’s care was very close to perfection.  He knows a great deal about systemic internal bodily difficulties and is an expert with supplemental care.  I was diagnosed by him with an extremely underactive thyroid.  He did the impossible by motivating me to lose weight.  I was able to quickly lose 15 lbs. without any pharmacological help.  Water intake and exercise were very instrumental in this.  I am grateful as my weight had been problematic for twenty years.

Without hesitation, I will refer my friends and my family to him

Thanks God I found Dr Krage, ( Thyroid Wellness Center) after so many years of suffering  S&S of thyroid problems. He, VS my conventional dr. by approaching the root of the problem eas able to  DX me with Hashimoto’s disease. Now, I have a lot of energy, my days are brighter, less hair loss, less body pain, etc.  Without hesitation I will refer my friends and my family to him. Thanks to Michelle , his office’s girl, she is super nice.+++++

This is similar to seeing an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist for breathing problems, but for your hormones instead.

But keep in mind, appointments depend on the hospital’s scheduling, which can sometimes mean longer wait times.

Pros

  • Board-certified endocrinologist

Worth every penny

When I sought out AFM, I was at my worst, with thyroid problems, major weight gain and fatigue. Now, I feel better than I did in my 20s! My thyriod has improved, I’ve been able to decrease the dosage of my medication, I’ve lost all the unwanted weight and my energy levels are much better than before. I’m still a working progress, and honestly, it was a lot of money, but worth every penny!! At AFM you really feel that the staff genuinely care and take the time to investigate your issues, and customize a plan to work for YOU!

Staff is friendly and caring

After following 3 month program at Advanced Functional Medicine of San Diego, my LabCore tests showed 3 of 5 of my thyroid related hormones in the normal range! They had been too low for 2 years! Dr. says other 2 just need a little more time to stabilise. I feel so much better physically and emotionally! Staff is friendly and caring. I like that supplements and diets are prescribed by MD’s, after analysing your specific needs and symptoms. It was so worth the lifestyle changes and financial investment!

He has helped me so much over the years

I can not say enough great things about Dr. Chaudhary! I have been his patient since 2013. He has helped me so much over the years. He works well with my hormone doctor to balance my thyroid meds and HRT. He has helped me many times with balancing my “doshas”. He is calm and caring and listens to all of my concerns. He explains everything very simply (not condescending) and uses drawings and charts to supplement his explanations. He is such an asset to the medical community. I wish more doctors practiced like he does!

I’ve started back with them and they’re great

I started seeing them back in 2021-2022, I had a lot wrong with me and i noticed they kind of ghosted me.  I realized they only want “a certain type of patient.”  I tried to call them back recently to see if I could get back in to see them…I have hyperthyroidsim, and they never called me back.

Update: I’ve started back with them and they’re great!
