The Best Wisdom Tooth Removal Services in San Diego: My Top 5 Picks for a Pain-Free Smile

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Surgeon Expertise: I looked for clinics led by board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons who have extensive training beyond general dentistry. This ensures that even the most complex impactions are handled with surgical precision.

Safety Standards: I prioritized facilities that operate as full-service surgical centers with strict sterile protocols and in-house labs. Having a controlled environment is crucial for preventing infections and ensuring the highest level of patient safety.

Pain Management: I evaluated the variety of sedation options available, ranging from local numbing to deep IV sedation and general anesthesia. It’s important that patients have choices that match their comfort level and the complexity of their procedure.

Recovery Care: I checked for clinics that provide detailed post-operative instructions and direct follow-up support after the surgery. A smooth recovery often depends on how well the staff guides you through those first few days of healing.

Deciding to part ways with your third molars is never fun. I know that familiar mix of anxiety and physical discomfort when those back teeth start acting up, whether it’s a dull ache or full-on swelling.

Luckily, San Diego has plenty of wisdom tooth removal specialists. I looked into the ones that actually make the process feel manageable rather than terrifying.

My goal is to help you find a spot where the surgeons are experts and the recovery support is top-tier. After all, you just want to get back to eating solid food without any drama.

How much does wisdom tooth removal cost in San Diego?

Getting those teeth pulled can cost anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars for a simple extraction to a few thousand for a full set of impacted teeth under anesthesia.

Service TypeEstimated Cost Per Tooth
Simple Extraction$150 – $300
Surgical Extraction (Impacted)$300 – $605+
Complex Full Bony Impaction$413 – $1,041
Total for All Four (Average Range)$1,200 – $4,175

Dr. Paul Koshgerian and Dr. Jonathan Shelton offer something truly forward-thinking in this clinic: they let you bank stem cells from your extracted teeth through Stemodontics®.

This unique partnership means you aren’t just getting rid of a painful tooth, but also saving potentially life-saving medical resources for your future.

The care here is incredibly thorough, especially when it comes to what happens after you leave the chair. They provide very detailed, written post-op instructions that cover almost every recovery scenario you could imagine.

Also, the staff actually takes the time to call and check on you after the procedure, which is a nice touch.

One thing to keep in mind is that they aren’t open on weekends, so you’ll definitely need to clear some time during the work week.

Pros

  • Stem cell banking options
  • Diverse anesthesia choices
  • Direct recovery follow-ups
  • Detailed post-op guides

Cons

  • No weekend availability

Parents who have teenagers complaining about jaw pressure should check out the proactive approach used by Dr. Brian K. Oleksy and Dr. Derek J. Havas.

They specialize in an early-detection methodology that monitors dental development in the mid-teenage years to catch issues before they turn into emergencies.

I like that they use nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help you relax before the actual anesthesia kicks in, making the whole “going under” part much less stressful.

They also use sutures to close the wounds, which really helps lower the risk of getting an infection while you heal.

Once you’re finished with your oral surgery, you might even start thinking about straighter teeth and looking for Invisalign providers in San Diego to perfect your smile.

Just be prepared to pay at the time of your appointment, as they require payment when services are rendered.

Pros

  • Proactive teenage monitoring
  • Nitrous oxide for relaxation
  • General anesthesia options
  • Infection-reducing sutures

Cons

  • Strictly same-day payment

“A true caring doctor…”

Dr.Oleksy called to check in on me at 6:30pm on a Friday. What a true caring doctor, thank you! The procedure was very quick and thankfully I didn’t feel a thing after. Had 4 wisdom teeth removed earlier the same day. Highly recommend!

“5 stars…”

We refuse to go anywhere else! Dr Eckstein knows all the ins and outs of oral surgery, and adds a wonderful personality that puts us at ease, trusting him completely to achieve the perfect final outcome. He’s extracting extra front teeth, extracted wisdom teeth (even for me at age 52!), created a false tooth for our 9 year old, and done many procedures on my husband’s terrible teeth. The office staff is very helpful and understanding. Five stars for the older doctors and office staff, no doubt!

If you’re worried about more than just a gap in your smile, Dr. Olin’s boutique surgical center is a go-to. This clinic focuses on preventing long-term issues like jaw joint pain and chronic bad breath.

Impacted teeth are often the secret culprits behind halitosis (chronic bad breath), so they make it a priority to clear out those traps to improve your overall health.

The facility feels very modern and uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure everything is mapped out perfectly before the first incision. They really focus on how your teeth will align afterward, which helps minimize future damage to your jawbone.

But their Friday hours are a bit shorter than the rest of the week, so scheduling an end-of-week surgery can be a bit of a scramble if you have a busy job.

Pros

  • Focus on halitosis prevention
  • Advanced surgical technology
  • Jawbone protection focus
  • Proper alignment priority

Cons

  • Shorter Friday hours

The thought of surgery can be a bit much for anyone, but Dr. Mehdi Matin uses a specialized approach to help with the procedure.

Specifically, he’s known for his sectioning techniques to limit trauma to the surrounding area, which usually means a much faster recovery.

I actually spoke with a friend who went here, and they mentioned how the IV (intravenous) sedation made the whole thing feel like a five-minute nap rather than a dental procedure.

Most people are able to get back to their normal diet and daily routine within five to seven days, which is pretty impressive for oral surgery.

A proper recovery diet is key, so some folks even consult nutritionists in San Diego to make sure they’re healing right while stuck on soft foods.

They even bring you back for a one-week follow-up just to make sure everything’s looking good.

The only slight annoyance is that there are quite a few forms to fill out and review before you can actually get started.

Pros

  • Specialized trauma-limiting methods
  • One-week follow-up visit
  • Quick recovery timeline
  • Deep IV sedation options

Cons

  • Extensive paperwork required

“Professional and friendly staff…”

My son needed all four wisdom teeth removed. This group has professional and friendly staff and the most amazing surgeon. He was very informative and did meticulous work! My son had no issues and minimal discomfort. Wonderful experience!

“Definitely better than my previous dentist”

I got my wisdom teeth removed here and everything went well. The staff were all nice and there were (fortunately) no issues during the procedure. It was my first time going to this Practice, but the experience was definitely better than my previous dentist

5. SD Oral Surgery

Website:https://www.sdoralsurgery.com/

Address: 4125 Sorrento Valley Blvd., Suite D

Contact: 619-393-8357, 858-550-5954

Hours: Monday to Friday: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM

This team at SD Oral Surgery comprises board-certified surgeons who take advantage of an in-house laboratory to streamline your care.

Having the surgery performed under general anesthesia in a full-service center definitely adds a layer of comfort and professional monitoring that you don’t always get at a standard dentist’s office.

The team, including Dr. Arshiya Sharafi and Dr. Brian Evans, is highly trained in managing complex cases. So, you can feel pretty confident you’re in good hands here.

In fact, when I stopped by to ask about their post-op kits, the staff was incredibly thorough about the recovery process and showed me the comprehensive kits they give every patient.

On the downside, they close at 3:00 PM every single day, so you’ll have to be an early bird to snag an appointment that doesn’t eat up your whole afternoon.

Pros

  • On-site surgical laboratory
  • Board-certified surgeon team
  • Comprehensive post-op kits
  • Full-service surgical center

Cons

  • Closes early at 3:00 PM

“The staff were very comforting and nice…”

Just had my 4 wisdom teeth extracted today and Dr Evans and his assistants as well as the staff were very comforting and nice and made everything go smoothly and by the time I knew it I woke up and all 4 wisdom we’re all out

“Would recommend…”

Great customer service & nurses, was able to get a same day emergency appointment for wisdom tooth extraction. Dr. Evans was informative, approachable for questions or concerns pre/post-op, added some humor to lighten the anxiety before surgery, and the procedure was very smooth. Would recommend to anyone in need of an oral surgery procedure!
