Spice Up Your Vows with the 5 Best Wedding Caterers in San Diego

top-wedding-caterers-san-diego-banner
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Menu Variety: We reviewed each caterer’s menu, packages, and sample offerings. We looked for options like buffets, bar service, and customizable wedding menus.

Wedding Experience: We prioritized teams that appear familiar with timelines, guest counts, and venue coordination.

Food Presentation: We looked at website galleries, social media photos, and sample setups to see how the food is served and styled. We considered caterers with clean buffet arrangements and setups that would look appropriate for a wedding reception.

Service Support: We reviewed what each caterer includes beyond the food itself. This means checking if they offer servers, rentals, or event coordination.

Choosing wedding food may seem like one of the more enjoyable parts of planning, but it can quickly become one of the most stressful. A delayed dinner service, limited portions, or poorly handled dietary requests can affect the entire reception.

We’ve all attended events where the food ends up being the main talking point for all the wrong reasons, which is why choosing the right wedding caterers in San Diego becomes so important.

We believe that great wedding catering should feel seamless from planning to service. The right team helps couples ensure that the guests are well taken care of.

To help narrow the search, we rounded up caterers worth considering for a smoother and more memorable wedding meal.

How much do wedding caterers charge in San Diego?

Wedding caterers in San Diego charge around $80 to $200+ per person, depending on the menu, service style, and guest count. That said, higher-end customized menus can run closer to $150 to $200+ per guest.

For couples who don’t like losing flexibility, Bekker’s Catering is positioned as a strong middle ground.

They offer organized wedding packages without locking you into a one-size-fits-all menu. Their packages can include appetizers, buffet service, and cleanup, which already covers many wedding-day essentials.

What makes the menu more memorable is the variety. One standout is their San Diego Surf & Turf, which pairs pit-smoked BBQ tri-tip carved on-site with applewood-smoked salmon.

For guests with dietary needs, they offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free meals. This has no extra charge as long as these are pre-ordered 10 days before the event.

On top of the food, they can also help with coordination, add-ons, and rentals. They also offer extras like bartending, champagne service, and cake cutting. This can be helpful for couples who do not want to coordinate too many separate vendors.

They are also a practical choice for backyard and outdoor weddings. This includes parks, beaches, and other nontraditional venues.

The only thing to watch is the final cost since rentals, bar service, and extra labor can add up quickly.

Pros

  • Offers flexible packages
  • Features a standout Surf & Turf
  • Covers dietary needs
  • Simplifies planning with coordination
  • Fits outdoor weddings

Cons

  • Pricier with add-ons

Sweetest humans ever

“I’ve worked with Bekker’s Catering for quite a few events now, and I’m always so impressed by their team. The food was incredible, but beyond that, Josie and Colton were incredible partners day-of. They helped bus tables, serve water, and packaged up all of the food at the end of the event. Not to mention that they are the sweetest humans ever!! And the price was great! We plan on using them again and again for future events.”

Everyone was catered to appropriately

“Bekker’s is the best 🙂 We had so many compliments on how amazing the food was and how great the staff was.  Everyone was so friendly and had the venue set up in record speed.  Using Bekker’s bartenders made coordinating seamless and they were also amazing to our guests.  Kimberly was AMAZING as our coordinator as well.  She was so organized, communicated with all vendors, and kept to the timeline with no hiccups at all.  She took away all day of stress, and everything went as planned.  We are so grateful for how easy she made things and how beautiful everything turned out.  We had multiple guests with dietary restrictions, and she made sure they were catered to appropriately.  I cannot say enough positive things about her and Bekker’s team !!!!”

Making early budgeting easier is one of the first things we like about All Aspects Catering & Events. They offer structured wedding packages with a 40-guest minimum and published starting prices from $1,999 to $3,899.

That already gives couples a clearer starting point, which we always appreciate because wedding costs can get confusing fast. But having that 40-guest minimum may not be ideal for couples planning a more intimate reception.

From there, the packages also cover more than just food. They can include hors d’oeuvres and other reception essentials. Based on experience, those small inclusions truly matter because weddings already come with enough moving parts.

Food-wise, the food itself feels more thoughtful than a basic buffet. Their menu includes options like Ribeye with Whiskey Cream Sauce and Citrus Pesto Branzino, which gives couples a more elevated dining experience.

Beyond the meal, they can also provide day-of coordination for $1,350, which already covers bartending, DJ services, and photography and videography.

Plus, they also list a preferred venue network. It can be quite useful for couples who are still comparing locations or want vendors already familiar with local event spaces.

Pros

  • Shows clear pricing
  • Includes reception essentials
  • Offers elevated dishes
  • Provides day-of coordination
  • Covers extra services
  • Lists preferred venues

Cons

  • Requires 40 guests minimum
  • May not fit intimate weddings

Everyone raved about the food

“Can’t recommend them enough! I had a backyard wedding celebration of about 125 people and everyone raved about the food! Simon and his team were friendly, professional, and so kind. The groom and I went into the garage (where All Aspects was set up), and had a great time chatting with the crew while they were kind enough to make us fresh hors d’oeuvres. All Aspects Catering had the best pricing and options for what we were looking for, and I am soooo happy we went with them!”

Definitely recommended

“All aspects catering did a phenomenal job with our wedding. A lot of people were blown away by the pasta and the other food was delicious as well. The catering team did a great job making sure we were taken care of and everything was running smoothly. Simon was friendly and easy to work with when picking deciding the menu and tasting. Definitely recommend!”

For over 27 years, Terra Catering has built a strong reputation for flexible and chef-driven wedding catering. We like how this team handles both backyard celebrations and larger receptions.

Moreover, couples can shape the reception meal through buffet, family-style, or food-station setups. Along with the meal, they can serve handcrafted cocktails made with seasonal ingredients and fresh herbs, which adds a more personal touch.

That culinary focus makes sense too. Founded in 1998 by cookbook author and farm-to-table pioneer Chef Jeff Rossman, this company brings a chef-led approach to wedding menus. Its farm-to-table style also feels more intentional.

Another detail that stood out is how they prepare food for events. Instead of keeping meals hot in boxes for hours, the team brings food cold to the venue and finishes each dish on-site using ovens and fryers.

Just as importantly, they can accommodate kosher, halal, and cultural menus. Beyond food, support may include rentals, tableware, and venue coordination.

Plus, tastings are available for $25 per person, which is credited after booking. One thing to note is that their recommended booking window is 6 months to 1 year ahead, so last-minute couples may need to check availability.

Pros

  • 27+ years of experience
  • Handles different wedding sizes
  • Flexible meal setups
  • Serves handcrafted cocktails
  • Chef-led menu approach
  • Accommodates cultural menus
  • Affordable tastings

Cons

  • Requires early planning
  • Booking is recommended ahead of time

Terra was the right team for our wedding

“Professional, elegant and masters of their craft, Terra was the right team for our wedding, start to finish! We continue to hear all about the food, how great it was, and how beautifully it was presented.”

Really appreciate their flexibility

“I was asked to plan a last minute holiday party and Terra Catering was able to squeeze us in for a drop off disposable order in 2 weeks. Jan was able to readjust our guest count a few times as the head count kept going up. Really appreciate their flexibility. After dinner, SO many of our guests were raving about the food being one of the best parts of the event. The black truffle oil they put on the potatoes smelled so good and all the proteins were so flavorful and juicy. Definitely will hire again if I plan another party.”

We encountered California’s Best Catering & Events at a friend’s cocktail-style wedding reception, and one detail really stuck with us. Guests were actually pausing mid-conversation to talk about the appetizers, and that does not always happen.

For weddings, their full-service setup is the biggest strength. The team can handle cocktail hours, served buffets, and plated meals all at once. It gives the reception a smoother flow, especially during meal service.

Of course, the menu itself also deserves attention. Our favorites include Mini Beef Wellington Purses and Pan-Seared Branzino. Honestly, they sound more memorable than the typical reception menu.

Beyond the meal, they can also support live cooking stations, private chef experiences, and venue coordination. We also like that they offer vegan and dairy-free choices.

The only thing to consider is that their menu leans toward a more elevated wedding experience, so pricing may rise depending on the selections. Premium dishes like their Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon, along with live cooking stations, may cost more.

Pros

  • Full-service catering
  • Features memorable menu items
  • Interactive dining options
  • Supports venue coordination
  • Includes dietary choices

Cons

  • Costs more for premium selections

Booking them makes you truly relax and enjoy the event

“I can’t say enough good things about this caterer.   We’ve done large parties of 100, medium sized pool parties of about 20-30 and small “private chef” dinners for small groups of 6-8 and they always exceed expectations.   The food is amazing and our coordinator, David, takes care of every detail so you can just relax and enjoy your guests.”

Extremely accommodating and hospitable

“I had an awesome experience working with California’s Best Catering. Dave Parrent was extremely accommodating, fair, and hospitable for the needs of my Thanksgiving event. I highly recommend as a go to organization for all catering services. I appreciate the work and care that went into making our Thanksgiving dinner special!”

Founded in 2005 by Dawn Carvajal, The Wild Thyme Company caught our attention for its custom approach to wedding food. It feels like a menu built around the couple’s actual celebration.

We also like its Borderless Cuisine approach. Honestly, not every couple wants the same chicken, salad, and dinner roll situation. This gives couples more room to create a menu that feels more like them.

In addition, the wedding service can cover passed hors d’oeuvres, grazing tables, and many more. That range makes it easier to match the food to the flow of the reception. It really works whether couples want a cocktail-style setup or even a seated dinner.

Another standout is the on-site preparation. If a venue has no kitchen, the team can create satellite kitchens and finish most food on-site.

Beyond the food, they also provide beverage service, equipment, and staff coordination. They can also accommodate various dietary restrictions, including paleo requests.

For staffed events, cake cutting is complimentary, and a children’s menu can be customized too.

However, pricing is something couples should review carefully. Meals range from $100 to $175 per guest, plus a 22% production fee, which can add up for larger guest counts.

Pros

  • Offers custom menus
  • Fits different reception styles
  • Provides event essentials
  • Accommodates dietary needs
  • Free cake cutting for staffed events
  • Customizes kids’ menus

Cons

  • Falls on the higher end per guest
  • Adds a 22% production fee

Received so many compliments from our guests

“We hired Wild Thyme to cater and provide equipment rentals for our October 2025 wedding in La Jolla. The food was delicious and we received so many compliments from our guests! The Wild Thyme team was professional and easy to work with, and everything went seamlessly! We highly recommend their services!”

The service was outstanding

“I am so happy I found Wild Thyme to cater SDBotox’s 13 year anniversary party. The service was outstanding, the food was delicious, and the customer service was incredible! I highly recommend using this company for any event/catering needs – I’m already looking forward to our next event and hiring them again! Thank you Lily for everything!”
